The castle, a symbol of Iga City, was built on a plateau in the center of the Ueno Basin. Today, the castle is maintained as a park, and although most of the existing remains and buildings were destroyed by the decree of castle abandonment in the early Meiji period, there are still some structures, such as the "Takaishigaki" (high stone wall), which is one of the main attractions of the castle.
Tenshu tower built on the Tenshu base is a mock-up, but unlike most Tenshu towers, it's not made of concrete but of wood. Therefore, the exterior and interior give the appearance of an existing Tenshu, but inside, as with other mock-up or restored Tenshu towers, there are many historical documents and art works on display. To protect the historical documents and artworks, there is no air-conditioning or heating (only fans in summer). As the only means of access to each floor of the Tenshu is by stairs, wheelchairs and other disabilities are not recommended. Although the lord of the castle changed several times, the Todo clan took over the castle in the Edo period (1603-1868) and ruled it until the end of the Edo period. The "black lacquered helmet in the shape of a Chinese crown," which was given by Hideyoshi Toyotomi, is particularly eye-catching.
The Iga Ninja Museum is located within the grounds of Ueno Park, and many tourists visit the museum to try their hand at shuriken. Therefore, not many tourists visit this castle, even on holidays. This may be the perfect place for a quiet and relaxing tour.- 旅行時期

Restaurant where you can enjoy a rather small but well seasoned Nabeyaki Ramen
Dotted throughout Kochi City, this ramen restaurant offers the famous "Nabeyaki Ramen" of Susaki City.
The restaurant is small, with most of the seating consisting of counter seats and no more than 20 seats. The interior is like a typical old-fashioned diner, and you can use the restaurant without any hesitation. Because of its location near Kochi Station, the restaurant is popular among young people living in the surrounding area, and there is even a line of customers waiting outside the restaurant during lunch and dinner hours.
The staff's customer service was neither good nor bad. I felt they were somewhat distant and blunt, but I don't think they were particularly rude.
The Nabeyaki Ramen served to us was typical in its presentation, but the noodles and ingredients were well seasoned and the noodles were firm with good elasticity. The prices are reasonable (although the portions seem a bit small), and I think this is one of the reasons for its popularity.- 旅行時期

The park is perfect for strolling, but on the other hand, it's easy to get lost
The castle ruins were once the residence of the feudal lord of the Ako clan and the stage of the clan's administration.
Today, the site is maintained as a park while retaining the remains and gardens of those days, and is free of charge, making it accessible to all. Unlike the Ako Oishi Shrine and other museums in the area, there are no eye-catching relics, statues, or other artifacts on display at the castle ruins. On the other hand, many cherry trees are planted in the park, which attracts many visitors in spring. Other events are held at certain times of the year, but otherwise the park does not appear to be crowded, even on holidays, making it a good spot for a leisurely stroll. Although the area is maintained as a park, as it's a historic site, access to some areas is strictly restricted.
Although the park is very spacious, it's also easy to get lost. In particular, the castle walls and turrets built along the moat, although you can catch a glimpse of the beauty of the past from any direction, are so featureless in appearance that it's easy to lose your sense of direction. There are few signs to tell you where you are, so it's easy to get lost, especially for small children, unless you hold hands with them.- 旅行時期

Shrine with many treasures of Ako Ronin on display
This shrine enshrines Yoshio Oishi and other Ako Ronin who were killed in the Ako Incident. There was a small shrine in the Edo period to enshrine the Ako Ronin who had achieved their true motives, however, Emperor Meiji sent an imperial envoy to Sengakuji Temple, where the graves of the Ako Ronin were located, to mourn them, and the momentum for enshrining the Ronin as deities grew, leading to the construction of the present shrine. The shrine was built in 1900, making it one of the biggest tourist attractions in Ako, even though it’s a very new shrine.
The shrine is built on the site of the former Ako Castle, and some parts of it, such as the Ote-mon Gate and the Nagaya-mon Gate of the Oishi Residence, show the remains of Ako Castle. The shrine is also home to the "Gishi Treasure House," which exhibits items left behind by Ako Ronin and other related items, as well as a part of the historic site of Ako Castle, and the Oishi Residence Garden, a designated national historic site. Therefore, if you wish to appreciate the footprints of the Ako Ronin in detail, it’s recommended to tour around the Treasure House and the garden. Even so, the imposing stone statues of Ako Ronin that stand along the path from the torii gate to the hall of worship are sure to attract visitors.- 旅行時期

Restaurant featuring lightly seasoned, easy-to-eat ramen noodles
This ramen restaurant is located on the second floor of Plat Ako, a commercial facility adjacent to Ako Station. The main menu consists of ramen, and like other ramen shops, there are side dishes such as gyoza (dumplings), but perhaps because it also has an aspect as an izakaya (Japanese-style pub), it seems to have many typical but a la carte dishes such as edamame and fried bean curds as well as beer and other alcoholic beverages. It's a good place not only for a meal, but also for a small drinking party among well-meaning friends.
The ramen soup served is either salt, soy sauce, or miso, all of which are lightly seasoned and easy to eat. The noodles are firm and the broth is well mixed with the noodles, so you will enjoy them to the end. The toppings, including the ingredients, are typical in appearance and not at all eccentric, but I think you can safely eat it as one of the elements to enliven your banquet without thinking too much about it.- 旅行時期

A diner popular for its boldly arranged Kaisen-don (seafood bowl)
This is one of the restaurants in the food court on the second floor of "Fishing Port Station TOTOCO Odawara". There is an Italian restaurant on the same floor, but it is no exaggeration to say that almost all the users of this food court use this restaurant.
It's a popular restaurant with a long line of customers on weekdays and holidays, and the line even extends to the first floor of the building via the stairs. However, the line almost always dies down by 3:00 p.m., when lunchtime is over.
You must purchase a meal ticket in advance from the ticket vending machine located near the entrance of the food court. The menu is extremely varied, and is written in English as well as Japanese, making it easy for foreign tourists to use. Payment methods include cash, credit cards, and electronic money such as transportation system IC. When the number on your meal ticket is called out over the in-room announcement (the number is also displayed on the dedicated monitor), you will receive the food you ordered at the pickup counter. After eating, return the tablewares to the return counter.
The restaurant's signature dish is the Kaisen-don (seafood bowl), a bowl of rice topped with as much sashimi as possible. No matter how you eat it, the sashimi is almost guaranteed to spill out of the bowl, so the bowl is always covered with a large plate to catch it. Although it looks very impressive, the bowl itself is about the size of an ordinary bowl, so you may feel that the serving size is smaller than you expected (and that it is a bit expensive compared to the amount served). However, the sashimi is still packed so tightly together that you will feel full after eating it.- 旅行時期

Note that there are hotels with very similar names and it is easy to make a mistake
When using this hotel, you should always confirm the official name and location of the hotel.
There is another Daiwa Roynet Hotel about a minute or two walk from Morioka Station, but the official name of that hotel is "Daiwa Roynet Hotel Morioka Ekimae", not this hotel. Perhaps because all Daiwa Roynet hotels share customer information, if you make a mistake, they will tell you where and how to get to "Daiwa Roynet Hotel Morioka", but there is no courtesy bus, etc. If you check in late at night and they point out the wrong hotel by name, you will be fed up. This is especially true if you are carrying large luggage such as suitcases.
The hotel facilities themselves and the customer service of the staff are excellent and impeccable. Although the hotel is close to downtown, the soundproofing in the rooms is adequate, and one can hardly hear the bustle of the downtown area, especially at night. In addition, because of its proximity to downtown, there are many restaurants (especially for evening meals) and several convenience stores, so there is no need to worry about dining. On the other hand, you should not expect too much from the view from your guest room.
To enter the guest rooms, a special card key is used. This card key is also used to take the elevator to the desired guest room floor, providing extra security.
The hotel is very accessible, but as mentioned above, there are very similar hotel names, so be very careful when staying at the hotel.-

Udon diner in a corner of a supermarket, perfect for a quick meal
This udon diner is located on the first floor of the "Maxvalu" supermarket at the west exit of Yamagata Station. The ordering process is exactly the same as that found at many udon chain restaurants: first order udon at the order counter, then choose your own toppings such as tempura during the checkout process, and finally pay the bill before eating. After eating, tableware is returned to a special return counter.
Since the diner is located in a corner of a supermarket floor, the premises are not large, and the number of seats is not large (about 20). On the other hand, the seating arrangement is not too cramped, and although there are tables for four people, most customers are singles or small groups, the customer turnover is not too bad, and even at lunchtime you can eat without waiting longer than necessary.
The staff was friendly, smiling, and courteous (perhaps because the restaurant was open at that time of the day), which made a good impression on me.- 旅行時期

Ramen in a broth that is not as thick as it looks, with a nice aftertaste
Perhaps because the restaurant is located somewhat far from downtown Shinjuku, it does not appear to be crowded throughout the day, and the customer turnover is not bad, so even during the busiest lunch hours, you can dine without waiting too long.
You must purchase a meal ticket in advance from the ticket vending machine located near the entrance. There is one table to the right of the entrance, but the rest of the seats are at the counter. The aisle behind the seating area is not very wide, and there are steps at the entrance and exit, so wheelchairs and other disabilities are not recommended.
As the name of the restaurant suggests, the soup is made mainly from niboshi (dried sardines), and although it has an appearance reminiscent of a rich flavor, it is relatively light and has almost no fishy smell, and it leaves almost no aftertaste. While it may not be enough to enjoy the rich, gutsy taste, it may be just right for the purpose of having a gentle drink for the stomach after a drinking party or other alcoholic beverage feast.
The staff's customer service also left a good impression, as they maintained a good distance from all customers.-

Don't expect too much to explore the historical value, but it's a perfect spot for a stroll
The castle was built on a small hill in downtown Shiroishi City and was the residence of the Katakura clan, vassals of the Sendai Clan. The main attractions of the castle are the gate (Ote Ninomimon) and the turrets (Sankai Yagura(Three-story turret)), both of which were restored in 1995. The path from the foot of the castle to the turrets is well maintained and not too steep, so anyone can climb up the hill.
The three-story turret requires a fee (400 yen for adults and 200 yen for children), but there are no exhibits inside the turret, such as the history of the castle, excavated historical materials, or artifacts of the castle's lord and his family. Although the turret is a reconstruction, it has been restored as faithfully as possible to historical accuracy, so although the wood is new, visitors can still get a feel for the Shiroishi Castle of yesteryear. Even so, one cannot deny that it's a bit expensive. The historical materials of the Katakura clan, such as their belongings and letters, are exhibited in the adjacent "Shiroishi Castle History Exploration Museum".
Although the path to the turrets is well maintained, there are no elevators or other facilities inside the turrets, and the only way up or down is by stairs, making it unsuitable for wheelchairs or other handicapped visitors.
On the other hand, aside from the historical value of each building, the park is well maintained and seems to be an ideal place for a stroll.-

Ramen diner loved by local residents, easy to eat with little of the distinctive smell of seafood
This ramen diner is located in a residential area about a five-minute walk from Niihama Station. It's a small ramen diner with less than 20 tables and counter seats, but it appears to be a ramen diner that is loved mainly by the residents living in the neighborhood.
The style of this ramen diner is to select the dish you want to eat from the menu at each seat and call the staff to place your order. The soup is characterized by a seafood broth made from dried sardines and bonito stock, but the seafood aroma and peculiar flavor do not seem to be that strong (the bonito broth soup is made from fishmeal, which gives the soup a slightly strong seafood flavor and may be to different tastes).
One of the unique features of this ramen diner is that when you order the white miso ramen, the white miso used for the broth is served in a small dish. You can enjoy a variety of flavors, from light to rich, as you dissolve the white miso in the amount and timing of your choice.
The staff was very attentive and helpful from start to finish, politely showing us how to dissolve the white miso.-

The fact that it's empty, on the contrary, makes it easy to use and creates a sense of comfort

This bakery has a cafe attached to it. Since it's located inside Odawara Station, visitors do not have to worry about inclement weather when accessing the bakery after getting off the train or Shinkansen.
Since it's located on the north side of Odawara Station, near the opposite exit from the south exit where most of the commercial facilities are located, there are not many users on weekdays and holidays, and at least there are rarely lines. In addition, there is a Starbucks adjacent to the station, and since many customers use the Starbucks as a cafe, there are often even fewer customers using the cafe attached to the station. This may be one of the reasons why customers rarely have to wait longer than necessary for their orders to be served, and some customers take advantage of this situation to spend a leisurely time.
It's necessary to order drinks and other items at the order counter in advance. When the food and drinks are ready, you pick them up at the order counter and return the dishes, trays, etc. to the return counter when you leave. Bread purchased at the bakery can also be purchased at the cafe. In addition to bread, there is a wide variety of dishes on the menu, such as pizza and curry, but there are no oddities in either presentation or flavor. Since bread is the main attraction of the restaurant, the food is very typical and simple.- 旅行時期

This Chinese restaurant is located about a 3-4 minute walk from Hakone-Yumoto Station. The restaurant is crowded at lunchtime on weekdays and holidays, and although there are 40 to 50 seats on the first and second floors, the restaurant is so popular that a long line of customers forms every day. The second floor has table seating as well as tatami room seating.
Although the building itself has been restored several times, the exterior and interior of the building still have the modern atmosphere seen in cafes of the Taisho and early Showa periods. Since its founding, the restaurant has been committed to handmade, homemade noodles, and you can observe the noodle-making process from the storefront window.
On the other hand, the dishes served, while varied, are many of those found in other Chinese restaurants. The appearance and presentation of the dishes are not eccentric, and neither is the seasoning. The prices of the dishes are neither too expensive nor too cheap. The popularity of this restaurant lies not in its unusualness, but in the fact that you can enjoy simple but well-prepared dishes with peace of mind. Although it's Chinese cuisine, each dish is not too heavy and can be easily consumed by a single person or a small group. Of course, it's also possible to share the dishes with a large group. One of the charms of this restaurant may be that you can enjoy the dishes in various combinations, including toppings.- 旅行時期

A small-scale plum orchard, but offers a variety of colorful plum blossoms of different varieties

One of the scenic spots in Ota Ward. It was the atelier of a Japanese-style painter and a ryotei (Japanese-style restaurant) before being developed into the present ume (plum) garden.
There are two teahouses and a Japanese-style room in the garden (reservations are required to use either of them), but if you just want to tour around the garden without using them, you can tour the garden in about 30 minutes. Admission is 100 yen (free for those under 6 years old, over 65 years old, and the physically challenged), so even if the plum blossoms are not in bloom, the park is perfect for a short stroll.
Because of its name "Plum Garden (梅園)", it's crowded with many people from February to early March, when the plum blossoms are in bloom. On the other hand, the park is empty on weekends during the rest of the year. However, the park is not only filled with plum blossoms, but also peonies, azaleas, and other flowers of the four seasons, so it seems a bit of a waste to visit only when the plum blossoms are in bloom. On the other hand, it would be a good idea to choose an empty season and spend a relaxing time in the tea ceremony room with friends who know each other well.
There is a raised platform from which visitors can look down on the plum blossoms, but as the only access is by stairs, visitors with disabilities can only look up at the blossoms from below. Even so, there are various varieties of white and red plum trees planted here, so anyone can enjoy the ume blossoms. On the other hand, the hustle and bustle of traffic can be heard on weekdays and holidays, perhaps because National Route 1 (Daini-Keihin National Highway) runs nearby (although it's not so loud as to be extremely deafening).- 旅行時期

A temple where you can enjoy the elaborate and wonderful decorative carvings
Known by the common name "Shibamata Teishakuten," this temple of the Nichiren sect of Buddhism is one of Shibamata's most popular tourist attractions. The temple has been crowded with worshippers since the Edo period, in addition, its great popularity today can be attributed to the fact that it was one of the locations for the movie "Otoko wa Tsuraiyo".
The temple's most distinctive feature is the extremely detailed and beautiful decorative carvings on the pillars, beams, and other parts of all the buildings on the temple grounds. The Nitenmon Gate and Teishakudo Hall also have wonderful decorative carvings, but the decorative carvings on the walls of Teishakudo's inner hall, which is maintained as a sculpture gallery, are based on the stories of the Lotus Sutra, and although explanations of each story are posted on the floor (in Japanese and English), even without understanding the meaning, the decorative carvings are spectacular. Many foreign tourists were also viewing the exhibition, and they were all gaping at it.
The aforementioned sculpture gallery is fee-based, and if you purchase a visit ticket, you can also use the ticket to enter the garden "Suikei-en" in the precincts of the temple. Although the garden itself is relatively large, it does not take more than 30 minutes to tour the garden, as it can only be viewed from the corridor. There are chairs in the corridor on the side of the Main Guest Hall for viewing the garden, but you may feel a little disappointed because you can see the condominiums around the temple.
Including the fee-based zones such as the sculpture space and the garden, it takes more than one hour to tour the entire temple grounds, but it takes less than 30 minutes in the free zone. If you want to take your time and enjoy the temple, it's recommended to visit the free zones as well.- 旅行時期

The one and only great castle that combines majesty and solidity
The white stucco walls of its castle, while celebrating a beauty like an egret, are both majestic and practically robust, clearly visible even from a distance. Moreover, it has remained virtually unchanged for more than 400 years. This level of architectural specification is unparalleled anywhere in the world. Together with "Buddhist Monuments in the Horyu-ji Area" in Nara, it's one of the first World Heritage sites in Japan established in 1993, and is also one of the only existing castle keepers in Japan.
Although restoration work has been done many times, there are no escalators, elevators, lighting fixtures, or even air conditioners in the castle, as one of the objectives is to keep the existing castle tower intact into the future. However, the stairs to ascend and descend are so steep that portable lighting fixtures have been installed to prevent visitors from slipping and falling. Although the castle is lit from the outside, it's dimly lit. During the summer, it's relatively cool because of the dimness of the castle and the installation of fans, but during the winter, it will feel very cold. Entering the castle with shoes on is strictly prohibited, and shoes must be removed at the entrance (there is a special shoe box, and shoe bags are available for rent if necessary). You do not need to rent slippers, but considering the coldness of the wooden floor, especially in winter, it's better to rent slippers.
As mentioned above, there is no lighting or even air conditioning, but sprinklers have been installed to protect the cultural property from fire. These sprinklers are extremely sensitive, so sensitive that even a camera flash will spray water. Photography is allowed in most parts of the castle, but flash photography is strictly prohibited (tripods and selfie sticks are also prohibited for the protection of cultural properties).
The number of exhibits is very small, so those who expect to tour the castle like a museum may find it lacking. It is better to think of the castle as a place to see and learn about the architectural style of Himeji Castle, which has been passed down through 400 years of history. It would be more enjoyable to take a guided tour if necessary (the guides are volunteers living in Himeji, but they are fluent in English as well as Japanese).
As mentioned above, there are no escalators or elevators, and none will be installed in the future, so wheelchairs and other disabilities are not recommended. However, a caregiver can accompany visitors on a tour of the grounds outside the castle.- 旅行時期

A mock castle tower built in Shiroyama Park in Tateyama City.
The Satomi clan ruled the area until the early Edo period, but the Tateyama domain was dissolved and the Tateyama Castle was also abandoned. Later, the Tateyama clan was reestablished, but the castle tower was never rebuilt. The current castle tower was built in 1982.
Although the castle is built on an independent hill at an elevation of less than 70 meters, the path from the foot of the hill to the castle tower is well maintained, making the ascent relatively easy. Since there are almost no tall buildings around the hill, the view from the keep or the observatory is spectacular, and on a clear day, you can see as far as the Miura Peninsula.
The keep is strictly dirt-paved, and shoes must be left in the shoe box at the entrance. The exhibit inside the castle tower includes ukiyoe prints of "Nanso Satomi Hakkenden," a full-length novel set in Awa Province (present-day southern Chiba Prefecture), and is highly recommended for those interested in ukiyoe and Edo Period literature and art. Some genres of modern fantasy novels, comics and animes are greatly influenced by "Nanso Satomi Hakkenden," so it would be a good idea to view these works while comparing them with it.
On the other hand, photography of all exhibits in the castle tower is prohibited, and there are no exhibits of excavated historical materials, letters, swords, armor, or other armors related to Tateyama Castle or the Tateyama Clan. It should be noted that these historical materials are displayed in the main building of the Tateyama City Museum. In addition, the explanatory text for these exhibits is almost exclusively in Japanese. Ukiyoe, as well as kabuki and secondary works based on "Nanso Satomi Hakkenden" are very popular among foreign tourists, so they may find this somewhat insufficient or unfriendly to them.
Since there is no elevator in the keep, visitors with disabilities such as wheelchairs need to contact Tateyama City in advance (as a caregiver needs to be assigned).-

This ramen diner is located along Kuyakusho Street in Kabukicho, Shinjuku. Although there is a sign for the diner at the entrance, it's not prominently displayed as if it's a small pub in a small multi-tenant building, so first-time visitors may pass by without noticing.
The interior is small, with only about 20 counter seats. The aisles are also narrow, making it unsuitable for people with disabilities such as wheelchairs or those carrying large luggage.
The diner is characterized by the fact that more than half of its customers are foreign tourists, especially at night. There is a ticket machine at the entrance, and meal tickets must be purchased in advance, even though the buttons on the machine are only written in Japanese and only cash is accepted. Perhaps it's the atmosphere of a typical Japanese-style ramen diner, which does not pander too much to foreign tourists, that attracts their interest so strongly.
As the name of the diner suggests, most of the ramen served uses chicken broth white soup. The soup can be either thick or light, but in the case of the thick soup, you will enjoy a very rich and mellow flavor. The thicker soup has a very rich and mellow flavor, yet it is not overly rich and has a pleasant aftertaste. On the other hand, the serving size is small compared to the price, and it's undeniable that it's a bit expensive. Still, it's a good idea to try it at least once, since it's well balanced in both appearance and flavor, including the tsukune and chicken chashu.- 旅行時期

A plaza that will be the gathering place for Fukui's exploration, three dinosaurs will greet you
This is an outdoor space located at the east exit of Fukui Station.
The full-scale models of "Fukuititan," "Fukuisaurus," and "Fukuiraptor," which are new species excavated in Katsuyama City, Fukui Prefecture, are on display, and since each model is moving, it is a spot that tickles the spirit of adventure, especially for children. It is the best place to meet and use as a base for various sightseeing spots in Fukui Prefecture.
On the other hand, the plaza itself is not that large, so the number of people who can gather there is limited to about 50 at most. If there is a larger number of people, it may become so crowded that not only will people lose sight of each other, but they may also get in the way of other passersby. In addition, the life-size dinosaur models are often the perfect target for commemorative photos, and during the daytime on holidays, people sometimes line up for commemorative photos, so it's preferable to take photos by sharing the space with others.- 旅行時期

A hotel a little far from Sannomiya, relatively quiet around the hotel, reasonable price
The hotel is only a 5-minute walk from Kobe Station, yet it's relatively reasonably priced, and although there is a lot of traffic on Prefectural Route 21 right in front of the hotel, it's well soundproofed and quiet at night, etc. I think the conditions are quite favorable. The hotel's location a little far from Sannomiya, the central area of Kobe where the Shinkansen bullet train and express buses are concentrated, may be one of the factors contributing to these favorable conditions.
The rooms are about the same size as those of a typical business hotel, and the same can be said for the bathrooms and facilities. It goes without saying that each guest room, as well as the lobby, is kept clean. On the other hand, there seem to be few restaurants around the hotel. There are a few restaurants in Kobe Station, but many of them close relatively early, so if you want to eat your favorite food late at night, you may have to go further to Sannomiya Station (on the other hand, such an environment may create a relatively quiet environment at night). There are several convenience stores around the hotel, including on the first floor of the hotel, so procuring food does not seem to be a particular problem.
I think this hotel would be one of the best candidates as a base for sightseeing in Kobe, if you want to stay at a relatively reasonable price. Perhaps because of this environment, the staff's customer service was generally good.- 旅行時期
