数寄屋丸
Sukiyamaru

正面には、天守南西に位置する数寄屋丸の石垣が見えます。「数寄屋」という名称から、茶会などが催されていたとみられます。平成元年（1989）に木造で復元された数寄屋丸二階御広間の西には、数寄屋丸五階櫓台石垣があります。熊本地震では、五階櫓台石垣や二階広間の石垣などが崩落しました。

The open area southwest of the castle towers and bounded by the stone walls and the moat is called the Sukiyamaru area. It is thought to have received the name "Sukiya" because of all of the tea parties once held here. The two story Sukiyamaru Nikai-onhiroma Hall that stands in this area today was rebuilt from scratch in 1989 according to information uncovered by a 250-year-old blueprint and an excavation of the site.

The Castle Towers and the Honmaru-goten Palace Hall

正面には築造年代が異なる石垣が重なる二様の石垣と、復された本丸御殿大広間が位置します。飯田丸から天守方面への通路には、地蔵門と呼ばれる三階建ての門がありました。門を抜けて石段を上ると、正面に宇土橋がある平左衛門丸、左手に数寄屋丸、右手には天守がそびえていました。

To the north are the Tenshukaku Castle Towers, and to the east Honmaru goten Palace stands in plain view. Since both the towers and Honmaru goten were vital to the castle, they were built on the highest ground within the fortress. However, both the castle towers and the Honmaru goten were burned to the ground in 1877. The Tenshukaku Castle Towers were eventually reconstructed with a steel-framed reinforced concrete structure in 1960, and the Honmaru goten Palace was reconstructed later out of wood in 2007.
