朝、Las Vegas を発ち、Hoover Dam により，午後にGrand Canyonに着きました。

At no point on the Rim Drive, east to Desert View are the weird and grotesque formations of the canyon strata more clearly seen than from Lipan Point. An interesting view is also had of the Colorado River.

The Grand Canyon is a titanic gorge, more than a mile deep and from 4 to 18 miles wide. At its bottom, the mighty Colorado River rushes to the sea. Rising from its depth are whole ranges of mountains, their base a mile below, where you are standing, their tops only slightly below the level of your eyes.

From Lipan Point, along the East Rim Drive, the Colorado River can be seen busily continuing the erosion and deepening the canyon.

Discovered in 1540 by Don Lopez de Cardenas, a captain in Coronado's expedition, the Grand Canyon was made a National Park in 1919, with an area of 1,008 square miles (389.19 sq. km) and containing 105 miles (168.9 km) of the Colorado River.
