ブダペスト国立西洋美術館【２】古代エジプト

ヨーロッパの主要都市にある美術館（博物館）には、大英博物館、ルーブル美術館を筆頭に、豊富なエジプト・コレクションを所蔵していますが、こちらブダペスト国立西洋美術館にも見ごたえのあるコレクションがありました。

「Head of a Man」紀元前1296-1186年
紀元前１４世紀、エジプト新王国のアメンホテプ４世時代に現れた、革新的で自由な表現をもつアマルナ美術の傑作。

実に写実的で生き生きとしています。

「イムホテプの像」 紀元前1千年紀の後半
イムホテプは、史上初のピラミッドといわれる、ジェセル王のピラミッドを設計したが、建築家としてのみならず、内科医としても優れ、死後には「知恵、医術と魔法の神」として神格化され、ギリシャの医神アスクレーピオスと同一視されています。

ベスは、古代エジプト神話の舞踊と戦闘の神。

「Wedjat-eye」middle of the Ist millennium B.C.
エジプト神話では、ホルス神の左目である「ウアジェトの目」は、ホルス神が父オシリス神の仇であるセト神を討つ時に失われたが、知恵の神にして月の神・時の神であるトート神によってホルス神の下に戻り、回復した。そのため、「ウアジェトの目」は「全てを見通す知恵」や「癒し・修復・再生」の象徴（シンボル）とされた。またホルス神が癒された目を父オシリス神に捧げたというエピソードから、供物の象徴（シンボル）ともされ、守護や魔除けの護符として用いられています。
ミイラ（死者）に添えられることもありました。
