Victoria & Albert Museum を訊ねました。目的は，展示物を見るためではなく，ティールームでお茶するためです。Morris Room, Gamble Room, Poynter Room といったステキなrefreshment rooms があるのです。

These three rooms formed the first museum
restaurant in the world. They were intended as
a showpiece of modern design, craftsmanship
and manufacturing.

Morris Room,1866-8
The green room was designed by Morris,
Marshall, Faulkner & Co, the decorating firm
that William Morris had set up in 1861.1t was
his first public commission. Later, Morris became
the most important designer and art theorist
in 19th?century Britain.

Most of the architecture in the new museum
was classical in style, but Morris turned to
the Middle Ages for inspiration. He worked in
collaboration with the architect Philip Webb,
who designed the plasterwork, and the artist
Edward Burne-Jones, who did the figures in
the stained glass and on the walls.



Gamble Room,1865-78
The central room was designed in an elaborate
Classical Revival style by James Gamble. It was
clad in washable materials, with ceramic tiles
on the walls and enamelled iron on the ceiling.
The various inscriptions include 'A good cup
makes all young' and 'Hunger is the best sauce'.



Poynter Room,1876-81
The blue and white room was designed by
Edward Poynter.The stove is decorated with
Japanese motifs, and the walls are lined with
tiles painted in a Dutch manner by female
students from the neighbouring art school.
Originally called the Grill Room, it was fitted
out to 'broil chops and steaks'.

The original Jaguar E-Type debuted in
1961 and was described by Enzo Ferrari
as 'the most beautiful car ever made'
It quickly became an icon of both car
and British design, with its sleek body,
relatively affordable price and powerful
engine. But this new iteration has a
hidden twist - it has been converted to
run on an electric, emission-free engine.

The modification speaks to a promising
new future for car lovers, who appreciate
the look and performance of a classic
car, but equally support cleaner, more
sustainable ways of getting around.

The zero emissions Jaguar E-Type was
used by The Duke and Duchess of Sussex
at their wedding in May 2018.


This car is on display as part of Cars: Accelerating
the Modern World, from 23 November 2019 until
19 April 2020 in the Sainsbury Gallery. #VaVaVroom
