岩手の三陸を代表する景勝地の一つで、砂浜の白、海と空の青、一体を覆う木々の緑、これらの鮮やかな色彩が素晴らしい景色を生み出している。荒波や海風によって荒々しく削り取られた岩が、これらの色彩に絶妙に映える。天候の悪い日はあまりお勧め出来ないが、雲がほとんどない快晴の日であれば、是非ともお勧めしたい場所である。
基本的に車で訪れる観光地であるが、バスの本数も充分にある上に、宮古駅から浄土ヶ浜まで約4km程度の距離であるため、ハイキング目的で徒歩で行けるのも魅力の一つと言える。
ビジターセンターから海岸まで高低差があり、海岸沿いの歩道は階段などの段差のあるところが多い。その一方で海岸の手前まで車で行くことが出来る程車道も整備されているため、車椅子等の障碍を持つ方でもこの景色を気軽に楽しむことが出来る。
遊覧船に乗船して青の洞窟探検をしたり、夏季には砂浜で遊ぶこともできるが、絶景を眺めながらゆっくり散策するにはピッタリの場所だろう。一部滑りやすい箇所があるため、うっかり海に滑り落ちたり、物を海に落としたりしないように注意したい。

It's one of the representative scenic spots in Sanriku, Iwate. The white of the sandy beach, the blue of the sea and sky, and the green of the trees covering the whole area, these vivid colors create a wonderful view. The rocks, which have been roughly carved by rough waves and sea winds, look exquisite against these colors. Although not recommended on a bad day, on a clear day with almost no clouds, this is a place I would highly recommend to you.
Although it's basically the place visited by car, there are enough buses available, and since the distance from Miyako Station to Jodogahama is only about 4km, one of the attractions of this area is that it can be reached on foot for hiking purposes.
There is a difference in elevation from the visitor center to the beach, and many of the sidewalks along the beach have stairs or other steps. On the other hand, the roadway is well maintained to the extent that visitors with disabilities, such as wheelchairs, can drive up to the beach and enjoy the scenery.
You can board a cruise ship to explore the Blue Cave or play on the sandy beach during the summer season, but this is the perfect place to take a leisurely stroll while enjoying the spectacular view. This area is slippery in places, so be careful not to slip and fall into the sea or drop your things into the water.
