冬の日光へ　Nikko in winter 2012

It was my third visit to Nikko, explored Toshogu area and spent Onsen. Especially Yumoto Onsen, everything covered with snow.

This is "Shinbashi"(神橋), belongs to Nikko Futarasan Shrine. One of the famous image of Nikko.

This is the pagoda close to the entrance. The pagoda was constructed in 1615 but it was burnt down in early 19th century, current one was made in 1818. It is painted with strong colors.

In the main gate of the shrine, there are two statue of Ni-o (muscular guardian of Budda), usually one opens his mouth ("A" statue) and other closes ("Un" statue). This is the Un statue with strong feature.

This is "A" statue.

This is an elephant face on the main gate, a bit strange face like smiling because it is made with imagination.

This is "Sanjinko", storage for the costumes and horse riding goods for festivals.

Again, there were 2 imaginary elephants, with many wrinkles.

This is "Shinkyusya", the stable for sacred horses.

This is famous carving of three wise monkeys, "Mizaru Kikazaru Iwazaru" (Not look, not hear, not talk).

I really love to take picture of moss.

There were icicles from the room.

One more again, an imaginary elephant.

This is Yomeimon, with many animal carvings.

Beautiful carving.

I saw the sleeping cat when I was primary student. It costs 500jpy only for looking so I was too lazy to get in and see this time.

This is Kegon Falls, one of the most famous waterfalls in Japan. It was partly frozen in winter time.

It is Yunoko, a lake in the west area of Nikko. This lake was also partly frozen.

Stayed at the hotel "Yunomori" (ゆの森）in Okunikko. Each room has outside bathtub, it was so special to take outside bath with snow.

Mmmm, so luxurious!
