Since the early modern period, Mostar, the Hercegovinan capital, has been famous for the Old Bridge which symbolizes the intrinsic cosmopolitan atmosphere in this town. In 1990's Mostar was drastically destroyed by Serbian and Croatian tanks, including its historic symbol. People say that Mostar was the most tragic stage of ethnic cleansing. Today the old quarter of Mostar is counted for the UNESCO World Heritage, while the destructed brige has been reconstructed with its fragments, expressing sort of rehabilitation of multiethinic coexistence. The Mostarian sprit always stays there.
