Chiang Mai, a historic city of the northern Thailand.

C&D: チェンマイから南西方向に約200km, メーホンソン州
　　 メーサリアン郡のカレン族の村にてホームステイ＆
エコ・トレッキングツアー

　　 Trekking in the county of Mae Sariang, Mae Hong
　　 Son Province including homestay at a Karen
　　 hilltribe's village (a 3-day ecotour)


Day 1: 新千歳〜（ソウル/仁川）〜チェンマイ　移動日

Day 2: チェンマイ市内・近郊の観光地巡り＆グルメ

Day 3: トレッキングに向け買い出し・移動・歩き＆
　　　　ポーカレン族（山岳少数民族）のお宅にホームステイ

Day 4: 村の皆さんとさようなら、渓流沿いの5つ星ホテルへ向けた
　　　 山歩き＆沢渡り

Day 5: 沢登り、コウモリの洞窟、up up and upの登り坂
　　　 チェンマイに戻る、日曜夜市

Day 6: のんびりチェンマイ散歩、最後のお買いもの＆夕食、
　　　　チェンマイにさようなら

Day 7:ソウル/仁川空港→真っ白な新千歳/北海道へ

今宵の宿・5つ星ホテル目指して、一歩一歩。

Slow but steady progress towards the five-star hotel.

暑かっただけに、広い川に出たときは感激！

Wow, how happy I was when I reached the
river and crossed it.

夕食準備に使うカレン式調理用具や食器等を竹で手際よく作っていく。
ナタやナイフで何でも作れるのがスゴイ。

ちなみに、象使いもカレン族。

The way they use thier knife and hatchet is like a magic:
all cutlery and cups were made with bamboo just like this.

着きました、今宵の宿・ファイブ・スターホテル。
でも本当は５つどころかミリオン・スター・ホテル！！！

Here we are, at the five-star hotel.
Well, actually it was definitely more than five; hundred,
thousand or even million??

野生のヘチマ。皮をむくとスポンジ状になっていて、
中から出る汁に水を混ぜてこすると泡が！
究極のエコせっけんです。

＊目と口の中に入ると、唐辛子が入った時のような
強烈な刺激があるので注意！とT氏。

汗だくだったのでkiwminはこの後、滝つぼに打たれ
ながら水浴びをする...の巻。（写真はナシよ。）
その後、亀の甲羅干しヨロシク、日向の大きな岩の
上に寝転がってみた。とても温かくって気持ち良くって、
ウトウト...zzz

Ultimate eco-soap-bio-degradable.
Totally enjoyed bathing at a small waterfall and
drying myself on a warm big rock in the river feeling
the sunlight on the face . Celestial!

その間、カレン男子は竹筒でせっせと夕食の準備。
こんなふうにごはんを炊いていた。

While we were enjoying bathing in the river,
the Karen boys were busy preparing dinner.
Rice is being cooked in these bamboo.

お鍋の中には、コケコーン夫妻。（私たちのために......ありがとう）

In the pot are the cluck cluck couple that traveled with us.

おやつに蜂の子の蒸し焼き。初物。卵っぽい結構なお味でした。

Cooked bee larva. Tasted like egg white.

まずは、コケコーン夫妻に鎮魂の祈りをささげてから...

Before cooking, Mr. Tee had a prayer for
the rooster & hen to be well taken care of in heaven...

美しく切られた食材。
「It's show time!」とばかりに、次々と手際良く
お料理をこしらえるT氏&ポーターさんたち。
名コックです。

Beautifully prepared ingredients.
Mr. Tee and his assistants are great cooks.

タイ風中華のような炒め料理と鶏のスープを計4品、カレン米
のごはん、そしてパイナップルのデザート。今宵も幸せ♪　

Some vegetable stir fries, chicken & vegetable soup,
Karen rice and pineapple.

私が寝ていた場所はミリオン・スターホテルのほぼ入口。ドアがないので、アタマをもたげると月明かりの夜空と大きな木々のシルエットが見える。
ハードな一日だったので、渓流の音を聞きながら爆睡....をイメージしていたが、さすがに山奥、気温が下がっていることもあり眠れない。

それならそれで寝袋の中でじっと自然の音に耳を傾ける。

満ち足りた夜が更けていく。

そしてまた、朝が来た。

The temperature dropped greatly during the night
and made my going to sleep difficult.
Eventually I was not able to sleep much again,
but felt quite nice as if I was becoming just a
small part of the nature there.

Day 3の朝食は、珈琲、トースト、カレンオムレツ。

Day 3 breakfast:
Toast, coffee, Karen omlette and pineapple.

ミリオンスターホテル。
左側の小さな建物はインターネットカフェ
（という名のトイレ）

もう数日居ても良かった....。（本心）

気を取り直して、最終日のトレッキングスタート。

Time to say goodbye to the five-star hotel.
The small shack at the end of railing is
the "Internet cafe"a.k.a lavatory.

I could stay there at least a few more days.
Seriously.

進もうと思っていたところに蟻の隊列。回り道してパチリ。

We made a detour, as ants were busy working in the
footpath.

この日の歩き、前半は沢を横切ったり登ったり。水の中を歩くのが気持ちイイ。

Spent the first half of the morning walking across and in
the river like this. It was great!

パラサイト・ツリー（外側の白い木）に寄生されたら最後、
中は既に空洞化......。怖っ！

A perfect motif for halloween.

いよいよ蝙蝠の洞窟へ。

Before going into the bat cave, turned back
and saw where we came from.

カレン男子は、松明を準備。あ、厳密には竹明だけど...。

Preparing torches, as it is all dark inside.
Everyone also put on a headlamp.

あの世への入り口？真っ暗で何も見えない。
慎重に、一方の手を岩肌に這わせ、もう片方の手は
ストックで足元の川底を確認しながら。
とにかく一歩ずつゆっくりと。

The bottom of the cave is a river, so we went
on really slowly.

今はまだ岩肌の温度が低すぎるのでコウモリが集まっていない。
雨季になったら、ものすごい数がやってきてここに住むらしい。

Saw only several bats flying.
The cave is still too cold for them to stay. Need to wait
until the rainy season to see countless bats here.

150メートルほど歩いて、やっと出口に。

After walking 150 m, we reached the exit.

カレン男子は、水に潜って魚も捕る。

Karen boys can catch fish with bare hands.

リポＤコマーシャル次回作に、是非推したい。

He is a hopeful for the next Lipovitan D commercial.

洞窟が終わって、あとはゴールに向かって登るのみ。
カレン男子の日常は、今の私にとって十分すぎるぐらいの
「冒険」あるいは、今の自分を見つめ直す「苦行」？

What was left until the end of the trekking was an hour
uphill hike under the strong sun.
This is just an ordinary scene for the Karen boys, but
for me, it was more than an adventure...

ついにトレッキングも終わり、ランチタイム。
この日のお弁当は、焼きビーフン。

前日作ってくれた竹のコップ、お箸、バターナイフ、
スプーン、マドラーもお土産に持たせてくれた。

Day 3 Lunch: Fried vermicelli
We got the bamboo chopstics as souvenrirs, together with a
mug, a butter knife, a spoon and a muddler we used the
previous day.

メーサリアン郡の山々、そこにに暮らす穏やかで働き者のカレン族。
ほんの3日間だったけど、何もかもが鮮烈な記憶となって私の記憶に
刷り込まれた。

Time to say good-bye to mountains of Mae Sarian and
the Karen People.
It was short but really sweet and the whole trekking
was imprinted in me so vividly.

遠くなるカレンの村に「タブルー・ニーボニター.....。」

"Tabluu ni bonitha." to the Karen villages.
("Thank you and wishing you good health." )

乾期なので、野火が時々発生する

あ〜あ、街に戻ってきちゃった....。
カウントダウン式の信号。

Oh well, we are already back in town.
The traffic lights with countdown boards.

3日間一緒だったリュック。
沢山詰め込んじゃったけど、壊れずにいてくれてありがとう！

The rucksack I spent the past 3 days with.
It deserves a good rest now.

  素手で魚・・・

  こういうのを見ちゃうとさ、科学技術、最先端技術・・・そんなもん、素潜りで、しかも素手で魚獲れることに比べたら、なんてちゃっちいのだろう、と思わずにはいられない。

  そうなのだー。
  すべての原型がここにある！という、強烈な場面だったわ。
  そして、生活の中にある動きで鍛えられた体がいかに美しいか、
  同行の某奥様ともども、目がハートマークになっちゃった（笑）
