私は英文学の専攻ではないが、唯一暗誦できる詩がある。それは William Wordsworth の "Upon Westminster Bridge" である。
詩は、"Dull would he be of soul who could pass by"と始まり、
Westminster Bridgeからの 風景を詠う
"This City now doth, like a garment, wear
The beauty of the morning; silent, bare,
Ships, towers, domes, theatres, and temples lie
Open unto the fields, and to the sky;"
私が訪問したのは、夕方なので、この詩のように静かではなかったが、詩と同様に船、塔、ドーム、寺院を見ることができる。
