ケアンズから、アウトバックを5700キロ

ただただ、大平原を、探し求め、
約5700キロのドライブです。

ビジネスクラスに届く、ANAマイル。
期限切れに追われ、ANAへTELしても、
全くつながりません。

ネットで、希望の英米を、探しますが、
全くダメ。

結局、取れたのはケアンズ。

それで．その昔に行った、
何も無い大平原に、再び行ってみることに。

後日、発券済チケットは、変更不可と知り、がっくり。
3年期限の、ANAマイルを貯めるのは、こりごりです。


It was just driving about 5700Kms
simply exploring the outback.

I was worried about the expriation date of ANA miles
because I had enough for business class
so I called ANA but I couldn't get through.
The line was always busy.

I serched the internet to UK and USA
where I wanted to go but no seats were avairable.

In the end, it was Cairns.
So I decided to go back to that empty plain
where I had gone long ago.

Even though it was a reward trip
the itinerary was very troublesome.

I was disappointed when I found out
that tickets already issued couldn't be changed.
I'm sick of collecting ANA miles
which are valid only for three years.

バスで関空に到着、
8時過ぎ、エバー航空のカウンターがオープン。

搭乗手続き、セキュリティチェックと、
ビジネスクラスは早く、
続いての、出国手続きは、電子化されており、
パスポートは、自分で
機械に、読み込ませるように、なっていました。

万が一のための、出国スタンプも押してもらい、
ANAの、貧弱なラウンジで、休憩です。

早朝から、慌ただしくて、
少しだけの、冷たいビールが、美味です。

台北、SIN で乗り換え、ケアンズへの、面倒くさい旅程ですが、
預け荷物は、最終地までスルーとの事、
大丈夫かな？？と、心配しましたが、無事受け取れました。

Got at KIX around 7am by bus
and tha EVA Air counter opened about an hour later.

Boarding procedures and security checks
were quick for business class.
And the subsequent departure procedures were electronic
and I had to scan my passport into the machine myself.

Just in case I got my departure stamp
and then took a break in ANA's shabby lounge.

It was busy since early morning.
Drunk a little cold beer was so delisious.

The complicated itinerary with a transfer at TPE and SIN
before heading to Cairns.
I was worried about my checked baggages carried through to CNS
but I was able to collect it safely.

台北桃園空港は、とても広くて人も多く、
関空の比では無く、驚きました。

狭い上に、待合イスもほとんど無く、

所定の時刻になると、パスポートと搭乗券のチェック後、
1階下の、本待合に通されます。

ターミナル2の、
24時間オープンラウンジ、シルバークリスタルへ。
広い空港で、ラウンジを探すのも、一苦労。

機内よりも、このラウンジでの食事の方が、
中華料理系等、種類も多く、ゆっくりできますが、

もうすでに、機内食で、おなかも大きく、
ラウンジでは、ほとんど食べることが、出来ません。

Headed to Silver Crystal lounge opened 24-hours in T2.
It was hard to find in such a huge airport.

The food in this lounge is more varied especially Chinese food
and could relax more than on the plane
but I was already full from in-flight meal
so I could hardly eat anything in the lounge.

Around 14:00 as we neared CNS light meals were served.

すすきかと思いました。

入国手続きは、電子化されていて、
自分で、機械にパスポートを読み込ませ、
続いて機械で写真をとり、入国。

その後の、荷物検査が、たったの2か所、
飛行機から出るのが遅いと、かなりの時間、待たされそうです。

日本語で　”お米”　とかも、言ってましたが、
持参する人があるのでしょう。

and then enter the country.

Afterthat there were only two baggage inspection points
and if you were slow to get off the plane
you have to wait for quite a while.

They also said " rice? " in Japanese
so I guess some people bring their own rice.

フロントは、19時までと、聞いていたので、ギリギリでした。

前もって、遅れるかも、連絡していたので、
ゲートを開ける番号と、部屋の鍵の場所は、
聞いていましたが。

かなりの距離を、走っても走っても、
こんな感じの山道。

特に見たい観光地も無く、
退屈なドライブが、延々と続きます。

とても流れが良く、快適です。

so the trafic flows smoothly and is comfortable.

Today there was nothing to see along the way.
I just drove.

It was hot when we arrived
so we turned on the air conditioning to cool it down.
The next morning it was cold and we turn on the heater.
It was a big difference in temperature between day and night.

薄くて暖かい、キングサイズの毛布が、
とても、役に立ちました。

The blankets I brought with me came in handy.
It was often cold at night in the outback
so the thin warm king-size blanket came in very handy.

市内の混雑を抜けるのに、時間がかかりましたが、
A2 Hwy に入ってからは、順調です。

It took a while to get trough the congestion in the city
but once we got onto A2 Hwy
things were going smoothly.

出発して、1時間位、

郊外へ出ると、長さ50メーター超の、
ロードトレインを、よく見かけるようになります。

About an hour after we daparted
a sign show our dwastination Roma is still 429km away.

When go out to the suburbs
see a 50-meter long Road Trains
become a common sight.

景色も広大です。

なにせ、洪水エリアが、多いので。

100超の、死骸を見ました。


鳥の、死骸も、時々見かけます。

カンガルーの死骸に群がる鳥も、
飛び立つのが遅れると、車と当たります。

車は時速、１００～110キロで、走行してますから。

本当に見たい、
視界の中に、木々が1本も無い景色,
には、出会いません。

日本人の、ショート＆ロングファームステイを、
受け入れているとか。

アマチュア ゴルフツアー
” OUTBACK QUEENSLAND MASTERS ” に、
参加して、各地を転戦中で、7週間の休暇中。

ゴルフ場には、芝生は無く、
土の上での、ゴルフだそうです。

全部で、6試合あり、
土、日が、ゴルフ大会で、
その後、各自、自由に次の開催地に、移動し、

その週末の土、日に、ゴルフ大会、
を、繰り返しながらの、ツアーです。


We met a couple who own a farm in Atherton.
They take in short and long farm stays for only Japanese.

They were on a 7 week break
taking part in the golf tour #Outback Queensland Masters"
competing in tournaments around the QLD

The tour has six games in total
On Sat and Sun there is a golf tornament.
After everyone is free to move to the next venue.
They told us.

Dajarra の、町に近づくにつれ、
木々が、増えて、大平原らしさが、無くなってきました。

As we got closer to the town of Dajarra
the number of trees increased
and the landscape began to look less like aplain.

子供たちが、遊んでいました。

the plain-like scenery was gone
and the number of trees increased.

about 45min ran from the town of Dajarra
Took frequent breaks.

心なしか、こちらを避けているようで、
舗装路面、ギリギリを、走行しているようです。

こちらは、砂利を、巻き上げられないか、冷や冷やしてます。

It seemed as if it was avoing me
looks like it was driving on the very edge of the sealed road.

Iwas anxiously awaiting the gravel to be rooled up.

We came across some cows crossing the road
and forced to stop for a while.

Boulia から、304キロを、4時間20分かかりました。

We got at Mcdnald's in Mt Isa around 12:20pm
It took 4 hours and 20min to cover 304km from Boulia.

展望台を出たのが、2時ごろ、
目的地、Cloncurry 迄は、あと、1時間半くらいです。

鉱山の町、Mt Isa は、内陸部の大きな町で、
ロードトレインが、頻繁に、行き来しています。

We left the lookout around 2pm
and it was about an hour and ahalf to Cloncurry.

Cloncurry クロンカリーに、着きました。

We drove across the nealy bare plains to Julia creek

道中、自転車が、Mt Isa 方面に、走り去って行きました。
おそらく、タウンズビルから、来たのかと。

ロードトレインが、頻繁に、時速100キロで、
走行しており、追い越される時には、
かなりの風圧を、受けるでしょう。

真っ黒に日焼けしていて、日本人だったのか、どうかわかりませんが、
アジア人だったようです。

On the way
We saw a bicycle going toward Mt Isa.
We guessed it was from Townsville.

Here, road trains often travel at speed of 100km/h
and when he was overtaken
would get considarable wind pressure.

He was so tanned
and I wasn't sure if he was Japanese or not
but he seemed Asian.

この場所も、
360度、一見、何も無いように見えます。

でも必ず、どこかに小さな木々が、あります。
地平線にも、木々が見えたりして、

全く、何もない場所に、出合うことは、
奇跡のように思われます。

It looked like there is nothing in any direction
but there were always small trees
on the horizon or somewhere.

It seems like a miracle to come acrossa place
that is completely empty.

モーテルを出てから、

その昔、訪れた、この写真の場所に、
もう一度、行きたくて、ここまで来ました。

当時、偶然出くわした、この場所、

360度、1本の道路だけが、
地平線から、地平線に伸びているだけで、
見渡す限り、1本の木も、ありませんでした。

地平線に、見えたのは、蜃気楼だけで、
感動したものです。

記憶では、
Julia Creek から、Wills Development Road を,
110キロくらい、Four Ways 方面に、走れば、

途中のどこかに、この写真の、景色の場所が、
あるはずなのですが、、、

I visited long ago in this place
Back then I came across this place by chance.

There was just a road streching
from horizon to horizon in every direction
and not a single tree as far as the eye could see.
I've never thought or imagined.
It was so impressive to me.

Since then it's been always in my mind.
That's why I came all the way.

Julia Creek から、110キロくらい走った、
Taldora タルドラ の、3差路まで行きましたが、

似たような場所は、あれども、
まったく同じ景色には、出会わず、がっかり。

仕方なく、近道の、Sedan Dip Road を、通り、
Cloncurry に、帰ろうと走り出しました。

I drove about 110km to a three-way intersection in Taldora

Although there were similar places.
I was disappointed to find
that I never found the exact same scenery.

I had no choice
but take the shortcut Sedan Dip Road
and head back to Cloncurry.

Many ants were entering and exiting their burrows

I've seen a lot of anthills
but this was the first time I've actually seen ants.
It's quite unusual.

Sedan Dip Road
しばらく進むと、あれあれ、砂利道になりました。

レンタカーで、砂利道は、走りたくないので、
仕方なく、引き返します。

After drove for a while the road turned into gravel.
I didn't want to drive on gravel roads in a rental car
so I had no choice but to turn back.

360度、一本の木も無く、
ただ、道路だけが地平線から、地平線に向けて、
走っている風景には、
出会うことが出来ませんでした。

and just the road running from horizon to horizon.

Cloncurry → Normanton に立ち寄り　
Croydon までの、535Km の、道のりです。

Cloncurry と、Normanton 間、
約380キロの道中にある、
唯一の、給油所で、キャラバンパークもあります。

ポツンと1件、あるだけで、町ではありません。

以前は、ここで、数台のロードトレインを、見ましたが、
朝早すぎて、ありませんでした。

This is the only service station and caravan park
on the 380km road between Cloncurry and Normanton.

There is just one isolated building it's not a town.

I've seen a few road trains here before
but it was too early in the morning
and they weren't any there.

トイレを、使用後は、
カエルを守るために、フタを閉めて下さい。
との、お知らせ？？？？？

この後、
しばらく走った後の、レストエリアの、トイレでも、
” 使用前に、水を流して ”　の、
看板が、ありました。

便器の、フタは開いていて、
なんとなく、標識通りに、フラッシュすると、
びっくりです、
カエルが跳び出しました。

便器のフチに、ひそんでいたようです。

We saw a sign which is slightly strange to us.
It said that
“ Please close toilet lid,,,,,,
to help keep the green tree frogs ,,,,,, “

"What ?? Frog and toilet ?? Joking"

But we knew at the next rest area.
It has only two cells next to each other
for man and lady
In my cell I saw a sign said that
“ Flash before use ”
I shouted at her “ Flash first “
because I thought she doesn't know it.
She was in the next cell

All of sudden I heard screaming.
“ FLOGS ”
“ Two frogs coming out , one jumped out
and gone to the outside another one buccumed
with the flash to the bottom ”
I laughed and I did mine.
It was immediate a frog appeared
from inside of the edge of the toilet bowl
and swallowed with the flash
Now we figured out.

Croydon へ、向かいます。
GulfLander 号の走る、Blackbull 駅の、レストエリアで休憩

同じく休憩中の、ご夫婦と、しばらく会話。
Croydon 在住で、150キロ以上離れた、Normanton で、
食料品買い物帰りとの事で、びっくり。
息子さんは、日本に行っているとの事。

I had a short conversation with a couple
who were also taking a break.
We were surprised to lesrn that
they live in Croydon and was on their way back from
grocery shopping in Normanton more than 150km away.
They also said that "my son is visiting in Japan"

その昔、金の産出で、相当賑わったようです。
その当時の建物が、保存、公開されています。

Croydon is a historical town
It seems that in the past the area was
quite prosperous due to gold mining.
The building from that time has been preserved

警戒心が強く、近づくと、逃げて行きます。

It's been a while I've seen a wide river.

前方に、カンガルーが飛び出して来ました。

道路両側には、
数多くの、カンガルーや、ワラビーが、立っていて、
飛び出して来ないか、気になります。

A kangaroo leapt out in front of me.
There were many kangaroos and wollabies
standing on both sides of the road and
I was worried that they might jump out at me.

両側を、木々に囲まれた、道路が、
延々と続きます。

全面舗装の道路を、走行していますが、
すぐ前方は、1車線のみの、舗装道路になります。

Croydon から、Georgetown を経て、Mt Surprise 間は、
中央部分だけ舗装、の道路が、断続的に続きます。

ロードトレインと、すれ違わないかと、
心配ばかりしていました。

振り返ってみれば、
ケアンズから、ブリスベン、アウトバックと周り、
いつも気になっていたのは、レストエリア（トイレ）

相方も年齢と共に、近くなり、
” 次はどこにあるの ”

何だか、”レストエリア”探しか、巡りのようで、
ふと、思い浮かんだ、” 岬めぐり ”

けっこう多くの車が、ありました。

Archer Creek Rest Area から、
30キロ先の、East Evalyn Road に、入ってから、
今回の旅行で、初めての、雨降りに。

About 30kms from Archer Creek Rest Area
after turning outo East Evalyn Road
it started raining for the first time on this trip.

しばらくして、雨も止み、
高原のような、景色が続きます。

これまでの、茶色の大平原とは、真逆の、
緑豊かな高原の景色に、
ここ、本当に？？オーストラリア？？

After a while the rain stopped and
the plateau-like scenery continued.

The scenery was a lush green plateau
the complete opposite of the brown plaines
we had seen up untill now.
Is this really AUS ??

East Evalyn Road から、
Millaa Millaa-Malanda Rd を、ケアンズ方面に向かいます。

Gillies Range Rd を、しばらく走ると、
かなりの距離に渡って、山間部の、
とてもカーブの多い、道になります。

急カーブも、大変多く、日本の山道の様です。

トラックも走っているし、
全般に、遅い車が多いですが、
追い越し場所も、時々あります。

After driving on Gilli Range rd for a while
the road becomes very curved and runs
through the mountains for quite a distance.

There are many sharp curves
it feels like-a mountainroad in JP

There are trucks on the road and
generally a lot of slow cars but
there are occasional places where you can overtake.

久しぶりに、A1の、Bruce Hwy に、戻ってきました。

After crossing the mountains
we returned to Bruce Hwy on A!
for the first time in a long while.

It costs $42 just cut your hair

最終日
今日の午後便で、帰国なので、
それまで、Palm Cove と、キュランダに、行きます。

オーストラリア全体、
市内、市外共、車の流れが良く、とても走りやすい。
とにかく、マイペースの、のろい車がありません。

流れにさえ、乗っていれば、
Push Push (あおり）される事も無く、
全く、ストレスなく運転できます。

The last day
We are returning home on this afternoon's flight.
Until then we'll got to Palm Cove and Kuranda.

ヤシの木等に、覆われた、エスプラネード。

朝、9時20分ごろですが、
駐車できるよな場所は、ほぼ満杯です。

It was around 9:20 in the morning
and most parking spaces were almost full.

又、ホテルや、カフェが並んでいて、
日曜日という事もあり、賑わっています。

海側には、遊歩道と、砂浜が続いています。

ケアンズは、あくまで観光客向けで、
現地の人は、ここのような場所に、来るのでしょう。

There are also hotels and cafes lined up on the Esplanade
and it was busltling especially since it was Sunday.

On the sea side there is a promenade and a sandy beach.
Cairns is primarily for tourists so locals
probably come to places like this.

Palm Cove の、Public Carpark に到着し、Jetty へ 。

午前9時半頃の、駐車場は、
まだ多くの、空きがありました

キュランダ、Barron Falls を、見に行きます。

約31キロ、40分近くかかります。

前方を、バイクが2台、併走しています。

こんな風に、走行してくれると、
後続も、走りやすい。
アメリカでも、よく見かけます。

Two motercycles were riding side by side ahead of us.
If the motercycle drives like this
it will be easier for those behond to drive as well.
It's common to see this in the USA too but JP

バロン川に、かかる橋を渡ると、もうすぐです。

Once cross the bridge over the Barron River
it almost there.
A little downstream from this bridge is Barron Falls.

車のチェック等、何もなくて、
ただ、キーを、返却BOX に、入れといて下さい、との事。

国内線ターミナルから、
荷物を積んだカートと共に、
国際線ターミナルに、着いたのは、2時半ごろ。

ロビーは、人も少なく、ひっそりです。
待合イスも少なく、時間がたつにつれ、
人が増え、座るところも、無くなります。

The lobby was quiet and there were not many people.
There were few waiting chairs and as time went by
the number of people increased and
there were no more places to sit.

After chcking in and going through security
took a break the Lounge and
had a shower to feel refreshed.

We couldn't eat because we just had lunch at the pub.

14時半、成田到着後、バスで羽田へ、
羽田で、早い便に変更してもらい、関空へ　19時半頃着。

電車とタクシーを、乗り継ぎ、帰宅しました。

After landed at NRT at 2:30pm
we took a bus to HND where we could change
to an earlier flight and got at KIX around 7:30pm.

From KIX took a train and taxi to get home.
Returned home safe and sound.

  ケアンズからのドライブについて

  今年の夏にケアンズを起点に3-4日ほど車で廻ってこようと画策しています。
  ※範囲的にはyusansayの半分程度というところでしょうか。
  やはりケアンズを離れるとあまり目ぼしいところはなさけで、ほぼ終始ロングドライブだけで終わるような感じでしょうか？
  ※運転すること自体も全然苦ではないのですが、それでもまあ良いのですが…。
  何かアドバイスなどあれば教えてください。

  どちらかの方面とか、具体的に考えておられるのでしょうか？
  
  何か、期待するものとか？　少し、具体的な事があれば助かります。
  
  私は、ケアンズ市内にはあまり興味が無く、
  penguin さんのご質問、嬉しい限りです。
  遠慮なく、何でもお聞きください。
  わかる限り何度でも、お答えさせて頂きます。
  
  実は私も、6月半ばから7月10日頃まで、
  メルボルン、アデレードからケアンズ迄、
  レンタカーで周る予定なんですよ。

  レスありがとうございます。
  南半球になるので、時期的なところで暖かいケアンズ案か、寒いシドニー↔︎メルボルン案で悩んでいるいうところです。
  日程的に現地で6日半間位しかないのでどちらかにするか悩ましいところです…。
  ※もっと休みが取れれば行動範囲がもっと広がるんですが…。
  個人的にはどちらかというと街系よりやはり雄大な自然の方がメインにしたいと思っています。
  このyusansaryさんの旅程ですと、Cloncurryあたり位からが重複しそうな感じでしょうか。
  ただやっぱりひたすら荒野(アウトバック)のようですねー^^
  また何かあれば教えてください。

  私の旅行記は、自分たちの旅行を見返すことを、
  主にしていますので、ただひたすらドライブとか、
  説明も淡々としていますが、
  実際には、道中、数多く停車し写真等撮っています。
  
  道中に見る大平原、ロードトレイン、空一面に広がるひつじ雲、
  無数のあり塚、道路両脇に見るカンガルー、ワラビー、エミュー等、
  宿での、夜の満天の星空等々、
  
  いつまでも続く一直線の道路では、夕日に向かって走れば、
  まぶしくてまぶしくて、とても大変なドライブ、
  また後方には、いつまでも消えないすれ違った車のテールランプ、
  
  アウトバックでは、日本で決して見る事の無い景色や経験、
  多くの感動があり、私にとっては、これこそオーストラリアです。
  
  以下は、私の好きな旅行先です。
  細かいことは、書ききれませんが、参考になれば幸いです。
  
  シドニーから、アウトバックを見ることが出来ます。
  　Dubbo 経由で、Lightning Ridge ( ライトニングリッジ )へ、
  　道中、紫色のジャカランダの花が、 たくさん見られます。
  　Lightning Ridgeは、オパールの産地、無料の温泉プール
  
  メルボルンから、
  1, Great Ocean Rd（グレートオーシャンロード）の、ドライブ
  
  2、 ワイナリーを訪れます。

  3, Halls Gap（ホールズギャップ）に宿泊して、

  ノーーウオーリーズさんの様に、好まれる方があるというのは、
  私も、うれしい限りです。
  
  アウトバックでは、都会と違い、日本の方を見かける事が、
  まず無くて、さみしいですね。
  多分、ワーホリの方たちが、ラウンドされる位なのかと、思っています。
  
  今回、久しぶりの海外、と言う事もあり、あまり気乗りもしなくて、
  又、行きたかった所も、1か所だけだったので、３週間にしましたが、
  発券後、急遽メルボルンを、組み入れたの事で、行程が、とてもタイトになり、
  運転、運転となりましたが、アウトバックの景色は、堪能できました。
  
  終わってみると、やはり、1か月にしておけば、
  Lightuning Ridge や、Boulia から　Alice Springs も、
  計画出来たと思います。
  
  小説については、全く知らなくて、そのうちに、読んでみます。
  私の知っている、VIC州の、町々が出てくるかもと楽しみです。

  小説「恐るべき空白」の旅行ですね

  私もオーストラリアの何もないアウトバック砂漠の旅行が好きなんで、同じ趣向の人と会えて嬉しいです。私も同じ様なルートを2017年に鉄道とバスで旅行しました。小説「恐るべき空白」で書かれた探検時の何も無さは、今でも感じられます。
  
  3週間の旅行で600枚以上の写真、その殆どが地平線とロードトレインって良く分かります。クイーンランド州内陸部で数少ない観光地のロングリーチ・ウィントン・マウントアイザをほぼ素通りしていますね。
  
  20年ぶりに再訪ですか、前回も良い思い出だったのでしょう。私もいずれ再訪したいです。
