全長5km超の洞窟群のうち、観光用として1km弱程度の範囲が公開されている。しかしたとえ公開箇所が限られていても、約30万年かけて作り上げられた鍾乳洞の壮大さは充分に感じ取れるだろう。
鍾乳洞内は、1年を通してほぼ同じ温度・湿度が保たれているため、冬はやや蒸し暑く感じる一方、夏はやや蒸すものの温度的には涼しく感じられるかもしれない。湿度の関係上、冬場は鍾乳洞に入るや否やメガネは必ず曇ることに注意が必要である。また、この湿気は足元も滑りやすくさせる。特に階段、あるいは段差があるところは充分に注意されたい。
整備された通路は、ところどころはやや狭いものの、人がすれ違えるだけの幅は充分にある。とは言え、混雑している時に鍾乳洞鑑賞に立ち止まると、通路を塞いでしまうのは否めない。ところどころでじっくり鑑賞できるよう、道幅を広めに設定している箇所があるため、その場所を利用した方がいいだろう。
観光用としてオープンしてから数十年が経過しているからか、通路のところどころには滴り落ちた石灰を含む水による鍾乳石が出来つつあることに驚くかもしれない。頭上だけでなく、こうした足元を鑑賞するのもこのスポットの醍醐味と言える。
鍾乳洞内の水中のところどころに、ライトが設置されており、その光で空間が幻想的に映える。『青の泉』と呼ばれる箇所がその代表例だ。自然が生んだ雄大な造形を鑑賞するだけでも、1時間は簡単に過ぎてしまうだろう。

Only about 1 kilometer of this cave system - whose total length exceeds 5 kilometers - is open to the public. Even so, the accessible section is more than enough to appreciate the breathtaking scale of this limestone cave, which has been shaped by nature over approximately 300,000 years. Gyokusendo Cave is one of Okinawa's most impressive natural attractions.
The cave maintains a nearly constant temperature and humidity throughout the year. In winter, it can feel surprisingly warm and humid, while in summer the high humidity remains, but the cooler air provides a welcome escape from the heat outside. If you wear glasses, be prepared for them to fog up almost immediately upon entering during the colder months. The damp conditions also make the floor slippery, especially on stairs and uneven sections, so sturdy footwear and careful footing are recommended.
The walkways are well maintained. Although some sections are relatively narrow, they are generally wide enough for people to pass each other comfortably. During busy periods, however, stopping in the middle of the path to admire the formations can obstruct other visitors. Fortunately, several wider viewing areas have been provided where you can pause without blocking the flow of traffic.
One particularly interesting detail is that, because the cave has been open to tourists for decades, you can still see new stalactites and stalagmites gradually forming in places where mineral-rich water continues to drip onto the walkways. Looking not only overhead but also at your feet is part of what makes visiting this cave so fascinating.
Throughout the cave, carefully placed underwater lighting creates a magical atmosphere by illuminating pools of crystal-clear water. One of the highlights is the area known as the "Blue Spring," where the blue illumination gives the water an almost otherworldly appearance.
Simply taking your time to admire the magnificent formations and ever-changing scenery can easily occupy an hour or more, making this one of Okinawa's most rewarding natural attractions.
