施設の性質上、館内は勿論のこと、仙台市街地から離れた場所にあり、すぐ脇は台原森林公園であることから、とても静かな環境であり、ゆったりと過ごすには最適な場所の一つと言える。とは言え、あくまでここは『本や文学に触れる』場所であり、ドリンク片手に休憩したり、居眠りをするような場所ではない（特定の場所でのみ飲食可能）。
仙台に限らず宮城県は、近代以降多くの文人達を輩出、もしくは彼らの縁の場所となった。この施設は、特定の文人の作品を深く掘り下げて紹介する、というより、多くの文人の作品（作品そのもの、というより、文体や彼等が作品において主張したいところ）を広く紹介する、いわゆる興味の入口を共に探ったり紹介したりする施設、と言える。これは児童文学にも同様のことが言え、子供にも絵本や児童文学に興味を持ってもらえるような足がかりとなる展示もある。
これらは常設展示の話であるが、一方の特別展示は、特定の文人や著名人たちの活動履歴などを深く掘り下げた展示であり、とても興味深い。常設展示・特別展示の両方を周遊するだけでも1時間は簡単に過ぎてしまう。
展示だけでなく、建物自体も非常に興味深い。特に建物内は、直線と曲線を巧みに活用した造りになっている。色遣いは白を始め基本的に単調で無機質ではあるものの、幾何学的で非常に興味を引き立たせる造りとなっている。
決して派手さや目立つような施設ではないが、1日をゆっくり過ごす際のお勧めスポットの一つと言えよう。

Located away from central Sendai and adjacent to Dainohara Forest Park, Sendai Literature Museum offers an exceptionally peaceful setting. The quiet surroundings make it an excellent place to spend a relaxed afternoon. That said, this is first and foremost a place to explore books and literature. It's not intended as a café or lounge where visitors can relax with a drink or take a nap, although food and beverages are permitted in designated areas.
Not only Sendai but Miyagi Prefecture as a whole has long been associated with many notable writers and literary figures. Rather than focusing exclusively on the works of a single author, the museum introduces a wide range of writers and their works. The emphasis is less on displaying the complete works themselves and more on helping visitors understand each author's writing style, ideas, and literary themes. In that sense, the museum serves as an inviting gateway to Japanese literature, encouraging visitors to discover authors they may wish to explore further.
The same philosophy extends to children's literature. The permanent exhibition includes displays designed to spark children's interest in picture books and literary works, making the museum enjoyable for families as well.
While the permanent exhibition provides a broad introduction to literature, the special exhibitions take a much deeper approach, often focusing on the life and achievements of a particular author or other notable figure. These temporary exhibitions are particularly engaging, and simply exploring both the permanent and special exhibitions can easily take an hour or more.
The building itself is also worth appreciating. Its interior makes elegant use of both straight lines and gentle curves, creating a striking architectural space. Although the color palette is predominantly white and intentionally understated, the geometric design gives the museum a distinctive and visually fascinating character.
This is not the kind of attraction that immediately stands out as a major tourist destination, but if you are looking for a quiet and rewarding place to spend a leisurely day in Sendai, it's well worth considering.
