取手駅から徒歩5分程度のところにある、小高い丘の上に建てられた寺院である。
境内への昇降は階段のみであるため、車椅子等の障碍を持つ方は気軽には参拝出来ない。またその階段は複数箇所あるが、いずれも可動式のフェンスが設置されており、夜間は立ち入ることが出来ない場合がある。
境内はそれ程広くは無く、周回するだけであれば1時間とかからない。茨城県の文化財に指定されている三世堂を含め、いずれの建物も平時は立ち入ることが出来ない。三世堂は毎年4月に内部が一般公開されており、現在国内で5つしか現存しない栄螺堂様式の建築構造を堪能することが出来る。
取手駅に近いにも関わらず、鉄道の行き来等の喧騒がほとんどない静かな環境が醸し出されている。決して種類が豊富ではないが、様々な花を咲かせる植物が植えられており、四季の花々を楽しむことが出来る。

The temple is built on top of a small hill about a 5-minute walk from Toride Station.
The temple precincts are accessible only by stairs, so visitors with disabilities, such as wheelchairs, cannot easily enter the temple. There are several stairways, but all of them have movable fences and are sometimes inaccessible at night.
The precincts are not very large, and it does not take more than an hour to walk around the grounds. All of the buildings, including Sanseido, which is designated as a cultural asset by Ibaraki Prefecture, are inaccessible during normal times. The interior of Sanseido is open to the public every April, and visitors can appreciate the Sazaedo style of architecture, one of only five remaining in Japan.
Despite its proximity to Toride Station, there is little bustle from the train traffic, creating a quiet environment. Although there is not a wide variety of flowers, a variety of flowering plants are planted here, and visitors can enjoy the flowers of the four seasons.
