小田原市のシンボルである城址です。小高い山の上に建てられているため、市街地のどこからでもすぐに見つけることが出来ます。2016年に大改修が行われ、それに伴い展示も一新。北条氏が治めていた戦乱の世を筆頭に、小田原合戦や江戸時代以降に至るまで事細かく、ビジュアルとしても判りやすい展示だったと思います。往年の歴史を勉強する上で、歴史、特に戦国時代マニアには垂涎の的の史料館ではありますが、英語などの他言語での解説が少ないように見受けられましたので、海外からの観光客にとって史料館の展示はやや物足りないと思うかもしれません。
小田原城の魅力として、この他にも天守の最上階から見渡せる相模湾と、公園内の四季折々の花々が挙げられます。特に最上階からの眺めは絶景で、晴れた日には是非とも上がって見てもらいたいと思います。空気が澄んでいれば遥か南の島々まで見ることが出来るでしょう。
Odawara Castle Site is a symbol of Odawara City. The castle is built on a small mountain, so you can find it anywhere in the city of Odawara. The castle was renovated in 2016, and at the same time the museum's exhibition was renewed. From the time that Hojo clan ruled in Odawara to the modern times through the Edo period, the history of Odawara Castle has been displayed a great deal.
While it is a very interesting historical museum for Japanese history lovers, there are few explanations in English, so it may seem a little unsatisfactory for foreign tourists.
However, the view from the top floor of Odawara Castle is superb! I want you to go there on a clear day when the air is clear. You will see the Izu Islands far south of Sagami Bay. In addition, you can enjoy the flowers of the four seasons in the park where Odawara Castle is located.
