縄文時代の集落の跡が多数発掘され、それを元に当時の住居を復元し、その中に入って当時の生活の様子を知ることが出来る史跡です。新青森駅から距離があるため、公共のバスもしくはタクシー、乗用車で行くことをお勧めします。縄文時代の史跡はここ以外にもいくつかありますが、日本最大級の敷地と発掘された史料の多さは群を抜くと思われます。中でも特徴なのが大型の掘立柱建物。祭壇に使われたと推測される建物は残念ながら上ることは出来ませんが、往年の様子を想像しながら鑑賞するのもいいかもしれません。いくつかの竪穴住居の中は発掘現場の断面を見ることが出来るため、考古学マニアには垂涎の的と言えます。
復元された建物や遺跡に掲げられている案内は、日本語の他にも英語などの多言語で解説されていますが、ガイドに案内してもらうことをお勧めします。

At the historical site, many traces of settlements of the Jomon period were excavated. The historic site was maintained to make them widely known. Although there are several historical sites in Jomon period other than here, this is Japan's largest in terms of the size and trace of historical sites. The nearest station is Shin-Aomori Station, but it is recommended to visit there by car, bus or taxi.
The main feature of this historic site is the six-pillared building. Unfortunately you can not climb it, but let's tour while thinking how it was used at that time. In addition, cross sections of the excavation site can be seen in some buildings. If you are an archeology mania, you'll be very excited about them.
There are guides in front of the restored buildings and the ruins, which are written in English as well as Japanese. Nevertheless, I recommend you to get guided by the guides.
