広島市内を流れる太田川河口のデルタ地帯に築いた平城。平城であるため、入り口と天守の高低差はあまりないが、敷地内は整備されているとは言え階段の箇所も多く起伏に富んでいるため、障碍を持つ方にはやや利用しづらい印象を持つ。一方で、長方形のシンプルな敷地でありながらその起伏が表情豊かな光景を醸成している。晴れた日の散歩にはピッタリの場所と言える。逆に雨の日はあまり楽しめないかもしれない。泥濘が出来る場所もいくつかあるし、天守など雨宿りが出来る場所も限られている。
広島城が主に利用されていた江戸時代の遺構もさることながら、太平洋戦争時の遺構もいくつか散見される。特に戦争の悲劇を伝えているのは、平和公園内の施設であるが、広島城が辿った運命を様々な遺構から見てまわるのも興味深い。
天守内の展示は、地方の萎びた資料館のようだった。ほとんどが日本語での解説であるため、海外の観光客は楽しみづらい。子供でも楽しめる設備もいくつかあるが、マンネリ感が否めなかった。歴史的に価値があり興味を引く刀剣や甲冑が展示されているもの、通路が狭いので混雑時は少々鑑賞しづらさを感じるかもしれない。階段もやや急で昇降には注意が必要である。

On the other hand, it is also easy to get muddy on rainy days.
There are many interesting remnants of two periods on the site of this castle. One is in Edo period, another is in the age of the Pacific War. Tracing the destiny that Hiroshima Castle was received from the remains of these two periods is very emotional.
The exhibition inside the castle tower is like a withered museum in the province. Because most commentaries are in Japanese, overseas tourists may not be enjoyable. Although there are some facilities that children can enjoy, they are t not unique here. And, although there are historical values and interesting swords and armors as well, because of the narrow aisle, you may feel that you are difficult to appreciate when crowded. I felt that ingenuity was necessary for the way of exhibition.
