モンゴル最西端•ウルギー（Ölgii or Ulgii)から中国の新疆ウイグル自治区•ウルムチ（Urumqi ）までの陸路情報が日本語版では見つからなかったため、取り急ぎでまとめます。

This article is a record of the overland route from Ulgii, the westernmost point of Mongolia, to Urumqi ,the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China.

まずは
ウルギー（Ulgii）から
経由地ホブド（Khovd）にいきます。

ネットでは「朝早く」から
バスが出てるとのことで
朝7時にバス停に向かいました。
ウルギーの朝は本当に静かで人気も少なく
バスが来そうな気配もないので
近くにいた人に聞くと10時に
乗り合いバンが出発するとのこと。


First, we’ll go from Ulgii to the transit town of Khovd.

According to information online, buses start running “early in the morning,”
so we headed to the bus stop at 7 AM.
Mornings in Ulgii are really quiet—
there were hardly any people around, and it didn’t feel like a bus would show up anytime soon.
When I asked someone nearby, they told me that a shared van would leave at 10 AM.

そのため私たちは近くのカフェに入り、
ゆっくりすることにしました。

So we decided to go into a nearby café
and take it easy for a while.

カフェラテ　7500 MNT(約306円)
大好きなタピオカもありましたが、
フルーツテイストだったようなので
今日はカフェラテに。

雰囲気も良くて落ち着いて
朝の時間を楽しむことができました。
早く着き過ぎてしまったらどうぞ。
バス停から徒歩5分です。

They also had my favorite—bubble tea
—but it seemed to be fruit-flavored,
so I went with a cafe latte today instead.

If you arrive too early, give this place a try.
It’s just a 5-minute walk from the bus stop.

念のため9時にバス停に戻りました。

We were told it would be at 10 o’clock,
but just to be safe, we went back to the bus stop at 9.

すると、もうすでに目の前のショッピングモールの斜め右にミニバンが停まっていました。
翻訳を使って尋ねると、それはホブド行き。
料金は60,000MNT(約2426円)
そのまま乗り合いの人数が集まるまで待ちます。

Then, we saw that a minivan was already parked diagonally to the right of the shopping mall in front of us.
Using a translation app, we asked and confirmed that it was heading to Khovd.
The fare was 60,000 MNT (~$16.80 USD).
We waited there until enough passengers had gathered.

10時半になっても他のお客は集まらなかったので居合わせた他のドライバーにお願いすることに。
ラッキーなことに値段もさっきより安い！
ホブド行き　40,000 MNT（約1619円）
即決して10時半過ぎに出発！
トヨタプリウスでした！

By 10:30, no other passengers had shown up,
so we decided to ask another driver who happened to be there.
Luckily, the price was even cheaper than before!
To Khovd: 40,000 MNT (~$11.20 USD).
We agreed right away and left shortly after 10:30.
The car was a Toyota Prius!

広がる大草原。
モンゴルのドライブは
何時間外を見ていても飽きません。
２時間半ほどの移動の末、
ホブドのシアター前につきました。

Endless grasslands stretched out before us.
No matter how many hours you spend looking out the window,
you never get tired of the Mongolian landscape.
After about two and a half hours of driving,
we arrived in front of the theater in Khovd.

さて、乗り継ぎのために
バスターミナルを目指して
2-30分歩きます。
大きなコンテナで米を売る人がとても多い。
これまた興味深い景色です。

Now, to catch our next ride,
we’re heading to the bus terminal—about a 20 to 30 minute walk.
There were lots of people selling rice out of large containers,
which made for another fascinating scene.

この柵と看板が目印です。
ターミナル内に入る前に、
とてもしつこい勧誘を受けます。
何人ものドライバーがいて、
行き先を聞いてきます。

特にそこにいた女性のドライバーはしつこく、
トイレに行くと言ってもトイレまでついてきました。
そして、私の彼の携帯の電卓を使って値段のやり取りをしましたが、私の彼が携帯を返して欲しいと言っても手を振り払い、違う値段を打ち込みます。
他のドライバーたちもドン引きしている様子でした。

彼女は最初 一人当たり100,000 MNT(約4081円)と言ってきましたが、他のドライバーに聞こうとすると
最終的に一人当たり50,000（約2238円）と言ってきました。
私たちは他のドライバーの車に乗りたかったのですが、何やかんやでその女性の車に乗ることに。

This fence and sign are your landmarks.
Before even entering the terminal, we were aggressively approached by several drivers.
Many of them asked where we were headed.

One female driver in particular was extremely persistent—even when we said we were going to the restroom, she followed us all the way there.
She used the calculator on my boyfriend’s phone to negotiate the price, but when my boyfriend asked her to return the phone, she waved him off and typed in a different amount instead.
Even the other drivers around seemed pretty shocked by her behavior.

At first, she quoted 100,000 MNT (about $27.94 USD) per person,
but when we tried asking other drivers,
she eventually lowered it to 50,000 MNT (about $13.97 USD) per person.

We actually wanted to ride with another driver,
but in all the confusion, we somehow ended up in her car.

約２時間半後の15時頃、
小さなお店に寄りました。

彼女はヨーグルトを買い運転再開。
（プチダノンてきなやつ）
そして、ヨーグルトを飲み物のように飲み始め、半分くらいが流れ出なくなるとヨーグルトの容器を割り中を舐め回し始めました‥。

最終的には口を拭いたティッシュとヨーグルトの容器を窓からポイ捨て‥
私と彼はショックを受けて目を合わせました笑


16時45分ごろには、ヒッチハイクをしていた人を拾い後部座席に4人で座りました。
とても狭くてお尻が本当に痛かったです‥

About two and a half hours later, around 3 PM, we stopped at a small shop.

She bought some yogurt（but she doesn’t have a spoon）and resumed driving.
Then, she started drinking the yogurt like it was a beverage.
When it stopped flowing halfway through,
she broke the container open and began licking the inside…

Eventually, she wiped her mouth with a tissue and threw both the yogurt container and the tissue out the window.
My boyfriend and I were so shocked that we exchanged glances in disbelief (and a bit of awkward laughter).

Around 4:45 PM, she picked up a hitchhiker,
and the four of us ended up squeezed together in the back seat.
It was incredibly cramped—our butts were seriously hurting…

19時10分ごろにブルガン（Bulgan）に到着。
各種ホテルサイトでは宿が見つからず、
Maps meの情報も古かったために、適当に歩いて宿探しをしました。

We arrived in Bulgan around 7:10 PM.
We couldn’t find any accommodations on the major hotel booking sites,
and the information on Maps.me was outdated,
so we just walked around and looked for a place to stay on our own.

こちらは見つけたホテル。
スタンダードルームで75000 MNT
彼と2人で割り勘なので
1泊1人あたり＝37500 MNT（約1,530円）

This is the hotel we found.
A standard room costs 75,000 MNT per night,
which comes to 37,500 MNT (about $10.47 USD) per person for one night.

夜ご飯は、モンゴル料理のボーズ（Buuz）。
この辺りはボーズ屋さんだらけで
むしろ他の料理が見当たりませんでした。笑

ボーズモンゴルの伝統的な蒸し餃子。
羊や牛のひき肉に玉ねぎを混ぜた具をモチモチの皮で包み、蒸して仕上げます。
日本の焼き餃子と比にならないぐらい
じゅわぁぁぁぁっと肉汁が出てきます。
モンゴル最終日、ボーズで〆られてよかった！
1ボーズ＝1300 MNT(約53円)

For dinner, we had buuz, a traditional Mongolian dish.
This area was packed with buuz shops—you could hardly find anything else to eat!

Buuz are traditional Mongolian steamed dumplings.
They’re made by wrapping a mixture of minced lamb or beef and chopped onions in a chewy dough, then steaming them to perfection.
Compared to Japanese pan-fried gyoza, the juicy meat filling in buuz bursts out in an entirely different, delicious way.

It felt great to end our final day in Mongolia with buuz!
1 buuz = 1,300 MNT (about $0.36 USD)

6月20日（金）の朝です。

昨日到着したバスターミナルの端っこにある黄色いプレハブが中国&モンゴルの国境行きのチケット売り場です。
バスはAM9:00出発なので8:30 にチケットを買いに行きます。
チケット料金26,000 MNT(約1,061円)


It’s the morning of Friday, June 20.
At the far end of the bus terminal we arrived at yesterday,
there’s a yellow prefab building—that’s the ticket office for buses heading to the China–Mongolia border.
The bus departs at 9:00 AM, so we went to buy tickets at 8:30.
Ticket price: 26,000 MNT (about ~$7.26 USD)

You board the bus with the same number that’s written on your ticket.
In this case, the bus number is 27 86 XOY,
and my seat number is 38.

AM 9:00少し過ぎた頃に出発しました。
The bus departed shortly after 9:00 AM.

そして、午前10時過ぎにモンゴル側到着です。
※ここからしばらく画像がなくなります。

ボーダー到着後、モンゴル側イミグレでは外国人（モンゴル人でも中国人でもない人）は別室に行きパスポートのチェックを受けます。
ちなみに外国人は私たちだけ。

すぐにパスポートチェックを終えセキュリティチェックに向かいました。
セキュリティチェックでは10分程度ならび荷物検査とボディチェックを受ける。
いざ、出国の手続きをしようとしたら、再度同じ部屋に連れて行かれ、またパスポートのチェックを受ける。
（連携がしっかり取れていない‥？）

もうすでに別室に行ったと伝えるが
そんなことは無用で再度パスポートチェックを受けてその後に出国手続き完了。

再度同じバスに乗り中国側のイミグレへ。

恥ずかしながら私はその日
生理と被ってしまい、
過度な緊張とプレッシャーから
生理痛、めまい、震え、悪寒などの
様々な症状に襲われてしまいました。

なぜ私がそんなに緊張していたかというと
私たちが入るのは新疆ウイグル自治区だから。
外国人が入るにはとても警備が厳しく、許可証がないと入れないからです。

英語で調べてみるとここの国境を通った人のスレッドのようなものを発見。
中には携帯やSDカードの中身を全て調べられた人もいました。

いざ、中国側のイミグレに行く時
生理症状はピークに達していました。

イミグレ入りの列では最後尾にいましたが、
1番後ろでうずくまっていた私を気にかけてくれたモンゴル人の方々に譲ってもらい、いちばん最初に入れてもらいました。

セキュリティチェックをモンゴル出国時と同じように受けて中に入りましたが、明らかに体調不良の私をセキュリティの人や警察が気にかけてくれました。

移民カードも本来ならば本人が書かなからばならないのに、中国警察の方が代理で書いてくれました‥
（こんなことは今後絶対起きないだろう）
イミグレ窓口の列も飛ばさせてもらいました。

We arrived at the Mongolian border shortly after 10:00 AM.
Note: There are no photos for a while from this point on.

Once at the border, at Mongolian immigration, foreigners (anyone who isn’t Mongolian or Chinese) are taken to a separate room for passport inspection.
We were the only foreigners there.

Our passport check was finished quickly, and we proceeded to the security screening.
There, we waited about 10 minutes and underwent luggage and body checks.
Just when we thought we were ready to complete the exit procedures, we were taken back to the same room again for another passport check.
(It made us wonder… is there a lack of coordination?)

We explained that we had already gone to the separate room,
but it didn’t matter—we had to go through another round of passport inspection before finally completing the exit process.

We then boarded the same bus again and headed toward Chinese immigration.

To be honest, that day I happened to get my period,
and due to extreme anxiety and pressure,
I started experiencing intense symptoms: menstrual cramps, dizziness, shaking, and chills.

Why was I so nervous?
Because we were entering the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region,
which is known for having very strict security for foreigners.
Entry is heavily regulated, and a special permit is required.

I had read some English-language forums about people who crossed this border—
some reported having their phones and SD cards thoroughly searched.

As we approached Chinese immigration, my symptoms hit their peak.

I was at the very back of the immigration line,
but seeing me crouched down in pain, some kind Mongolian travelers offered to let me go first.

I passed through security screening—similar to the Mongolian side—and entered the building.
It was clear I wasn’t well, and the security officers and police showed concern.

Normally, you’re supposed to fill out your immigration card yourself,
but one of the Chinese officers kindly filled it out for me.
(I doubt that will ever happen again.)
They also allowed me to skip the immigration queue entirely.

そんなこんなで無事に入国‥。
だが体調は最悪で一歳写真などは撮れず。

ベンチで横になっていると数人の方々が薬をオファーしてくれた。
本当に優しくてくれてありがたかったのと同時にたくさんの人に迷惑をかけてしまって本当に申し訳ない気持ちになりました。

しばらく待つと今まで乗ってきたのと同じバスが到着。
またバスに乗って中国側のタクシー乗り場まで送ってくれます。

And just like that, I was able to enter the country safely.
But I was in terrible shape—there was no way I could take my entry photo.

While I lay down on a bench, several people kindly offered me medicine.
I was incredibly touched by their kindness,
but also felt truly sorry for having caused so much trouble.

After a while, the same bus we had been riding arrived again.
We got back on, and it took us to the taxi stand on the Chinese side.

今日は体調最悪なため急遽、
タクシー乗り場近くのホテルに宿泊。
ホテルに着いたのが大体2時頃です。
それから４時間かお昼寝をして体調は復活しました。

Since I was feeling absolutely terrible today,
we decided to stay at a hotel near the taxi stand at the last minute.
We arrived at the hotel around 2 PM.
After taking a nap for about four hours,
I finally started to feel better.

次の日にタクシー乗り場からタクシーでウルムチ市へ。
相場は250元らしいがスーパーの店員さんの紹介で240元にしてもらいました。
値段:240元（約4,884円）
支払い:WeChat

※WeChat は事前の登録が必要です。
入国後ウイグル自治区ではsimを買うことができないらしいので中国入国前に電話番号付きSIMを購入、WeChat に登録をすることをお勧めします。


The next day, we took a taxi from the taxi stand to Ürümqi city.
The going rate is usually around 250 RMB,
but thanks to a recommendation from a local shop clerk,
we got it for 240 RMB instead.

Price: 240 RMB (about $33.40 USD)
Payment: WeChat Pay

Note: You need to register for WeChat in advance.
It’s said that buying a SIM card in Xinjiang is not possible after entering the region,
so we highly recommend getting a SIM card with a phone number and registering for WeChat before entering China.

10時出発。
ドライブの景色はモンゴルのままです。
大草原や岩山の間をぐんぐんと駆け抜けていきます。
道路は片道1車線で両サイドにはたくさんの運搬トラック。
そんな中わたしたちのバンは追い越ししまくり。
正直めちゃめちゃこわくてフロントガラスから目が離せませんでした。笑


We departed at 10:00 AM.
The scenery during the drive still felt just like Mongolia—
vast grasslands and rocky mountains stretched out around us as we sped through.

The road was a single lane in each direction, with countless cargo trucks on both sides.
Despite that, our van kept overtaking one vehicle after another.
To be honest, it was pretty terrifying—
I couldn’t take my eyes off the road through the front windshield! 😅

タクシーは各自の要望に合わせて下ろしてくれるので
17時過ぎに予約していたホテルに到着しました。
体調不良もあり3日間にわたる移動になってしまいましたが無事に入国できて一安心です。

The taxi dropped each passenger off according to their destination,
and we arrived at our reserved hotel a little after 5 PM.

Due to my poor health, the journey ended up taking three full days,
but we finally made it across the border safely—and that’s a huge relief.

おまけです。

ちなみに中国ってポケモンGOが
国家安全保障上の理由でバンされてます。
以前中国にいた時もVPNを使用して
ログインしましたが、ポケストップはない。
いつもGPSエラーが出てしまう。
VPN使用のため電波が悪く
ギフトも開けられない。
ポケモンは1匹もいないという悲惨な状況でした。。
卵が孵っても場所は「不明」と表示されます。

ただ‥‥
なんと、このウイグル自治区エリアでは
ポケモンが発生したのです‥!!!!!!!

ポケモンの詳細にもchinaとはっきり書かれています。
超絶レアポケモンをゲットしてしまった‥！
一生の宝にします！！笑
皆さんも中国でポケモンGOがしたくなったら、是非ウイグル自治区のエリアに来てみてください！

Bonus!

Did you know that Pokémon GO is banned in China for national security reasons?
When I was in China before, I tried logging in with a VPN—
but there were no PokéStops, constant GPS errors, and the signal was so bad due to the VPN
that I couldn’t even open gifts.
No Pokémon anywhere…
And when eggs hatched, the location just showed “Unknown.”
It was tragic.

But…
To my complete surprise, Pokémon actually spawned in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region!!
And in the Pokémon’s details, it clearly says China!

I managed to catch an ultra-rare Pokémon—
and I’m seriously going to treasure it forever!! 😂
So if you ever get the urge to play Pokémon GO in China,
I highly recommend heading to the Xinjiang region!
