historique de la Pépinière
En 1765, Stanislas permit la réalisation d'une Pépinière Royale le long des remparts de la ville. Constituée de 16 carrés de culture, les arbres étaient destinés à être plantés le long des routes de Lorraine : 36,000 ormes, 30,000 frênes, 10,000 tilleuls, 7,000 marronniers d'Inde, 4,000 noyers, etc. Un ou deux carrés étaient réservés aux semis. Cette pépinière avait pour autre vocation de servir de promenade publique.
A partir de 1800, la plantation d'arbres le long des routes s'achève et l'exploitation de la Pépinière devient d'un rapport plus faible. C'est pourquoi en 1835, l'Etat cède la Pépinière à la ville de Nancy, qui la transforme en parc public. Une partie des carrés est alors convertie en pelouses géométriques entourées de grands arbres.
En 1877, dans la partie haute du parc, est créé le jardin anglais constitué d'allées sinueuses, malgré les polémiques engendrées par le mélange des styles. Depuis cette date, le tracé de la Pépinière n'a pratiquement pas évolué.
Aujourd'hui, en plein coeur de la ville, ce vaste espace vert de 22 hectares invite à la promenade et à la détente : aire de jeux en bois sculpté, manèges, espace animalier, roseraie, minigolf, théâtre de Guignol, restauration.
Dans le cadre du Plan Vert, un projet s'étendant sur plusieurs années va remettre en valeur ce parc chargé d'histoire.

History of the Nursery
In 1765, Stanislas allowed the realization of a Royal Nursery along the ramparts of the city. Made up of 16 squares of culture, the trees were intended to be planted along the roads of Lorraine: 36,000 elms, 30,000 ash trees, 10,000 linden trees, 7,000 horse chestnut trees, 4,000 walnut trees, etc. One or two squares were reserved for sowing. This nursery had another vocation to serve as a public walk.
From 1800, the planting of trees along the roads ends and the exploitation of the nursery becomes of a lower ratio. That is why in 1835, the State gives the Nursery to the city of Nancy, which transforms it into a public park. Part of the squares are then converted into geometric lawns surrounded by tall trees.
In 1877, in the upper part of the park, is created the English garden consists of winding paths, despite the controversies generated by the mix of styles. Since then, the layout of the nursery has hardly changed.
Today, in the heart of the city, this vast green area of 22 hectares invites you to stroll and relax: a carved wooden play area, rides, animal area, rose garden, minigolf, theater Guignol, catering.
As part of the Green Plan, a project spanning several years will enhance this park full of history.
