「四季を通して楽しむ湯沢」シリーズの＜冬のイベント編＞として、今からでもスケジュール調整が間に合う2つの雪祭りを紹介します。二つとも訪問した人を感動させるスケールの大きなコンテンツを持っていながら、ほとんど人に知られていないのは、やはり商売が下手な新潟人の気質ゆえでしょうか。両方ともお勧めできる雪祭りなので、機会があればぜひおいでください。

湯沢の魅力＜冬編＞のおまけとして、今からでも間に合う湯沢近辺で行われる冬の魅力的なイベントを二つ紹介しようと思います。2月に入ると南魚沼近辺の町で週末ごとに、ほぼ週替わりのように交代で雪祭りが行われます。その中でも我が家が毎年欠かさず通っている二つのお祭りを紹介します。

十日町雪まつり　2/16(金)～2/18（日）　

　湯沢から山一つ越えた十日町市では毎年2月中旬に雪祭りが行われますが、今年2018年は2/16（金）～2/18（日）の期間の開催が予定されています。越後湯沢駅からは車で40分程度の場所ですが、この界隈の雪祭りの中で最大のスケールになります。

　詳しくは公式HPをご覧いただきたいのですが、3日にわたって行われる十日町雪祭りの見どころは以下の2つではないかと考えています。

１．町の全域に配置された「雪の芸術」作品
―お祭りの期間中は十日町地域全域に「雪の芸術」作品が並び、投票によるコンテストも行われます。雪像は2/16（金）夕方に完成し、夜はライトアップも行われて雪祭りの十日町を見守ります。札幌雪祭りにも匹敵する規模ですが、1か所で多くの作品を展示する札幌に比べて、十日町の場合は町の各ポイントに作品を設置しており、時間をかけて町を歩き回る楽しみが特徴のひとつ。

昨年の第68回雪の芸術作品では、芸術部門34点、特別部門18点、学童部門18点の70点が出展されました。写真はいずれも公式HPからご確認ください。

２．雪のステージで大盤振る舞い（無料です！）
―町の丘の上、野球場くらいのスペースに巨大な雪と氷のステージを構築してその上でショーを行います。今年のステージイメージは沖縄の「首里城」の予定。

69th Tokamachi Snow Festival　16.-18. February

Tokamachi is the town across the mountain range from Yuzawa town and Snow Festival takes place every mid-February. In 2018 it is planned in 16.-18. February. Tokamachi is around 40 minutes drive from Yuzawa town. This Snow Festival is the largest scale in whole area.

　詳しくは公式HPをご覧いただきたいのですが、3日にわたって行われる十日町雪祭りの見どころは以下の2つではないかと考えています。

1. “Snow arts” displayed at many spots in the town
―You can see a series of “Snow arts” object in whole area of Tokamachi during the Festival and the contest takes place, too. All statues are completed on the evening of 16. February and they are lit up at night. You can walk around each spot and enjoy displays. It is the main difference from Sapporo Snow Festival where all art objects are displayed at the same place.

2. Such a wonderful treat on Snow stage（Admission free！）
―Up on the hill of the town, a big Snow Stage is to be constructed and entertainment shows are performed on the stage. The concept of the stage this year is “Shuri Castle” in Okinawa.

　
Performers of the show are quite authentic! They are never only local Karaoke freaks.

これは昨年のステージ写真。

This is the snow stage of last year.
昨年のステージイメージは確か竜宮城だったと思います。

こちらは2年前の映像。ステージのビジュアルはかなりスケールの大きいものと感じていただけるでしょうか。

This is the stage of 2 years ago. The Snow stage looks quite large scale.
こちらは昨年も出演したNGT48のメンバー。皆ミニスカートのコスチュームですが、この時の外気温は－10℃以下ですよ！アイドルの根性には舌を巻きます！

　今年の開演時間は「2/17（土）17：00～18：30」、入場無料です。ただし外気温は当然氷点下、防寒対策は万全に。

これらのイベントのほかにも、戦隊ショーや、スノースポーツ大会など、3日間丸ごと滞在しても観て参加する催しには事欠きません。

They are Pop Idle group NGT48 of last year performance. They are all dressed in miniskirt but the temperature was under －10℃! I am astonished at Idles’ guts!

　The show takes place 17:00-18:30 on 17. February this year. Please get ready for the outside temperature!

You can visit and enjoy other entertainments like Heroes’ show, or snow sports contest. You can spend whole 3 days to enjoy the festival.

湯沢雪祭り　3/3（土）：圧巻の松明滑降

　「ミス駒子コンテスト」で有名な湯沢雪祭りは3/3（土）に開催されます。

公式HPはまだ未完成のようですが、毎年の恒例としては布場スキー場に特設した雪のステージで行われるDJと「ミス駒子コンテスト」、温泉街に展開する屋台、スキー場中腹にある「スキー神社」への雪の参詣路、そしてクライマックスは「スキー場冬花火」と、「湯沢高原ゴンドラステーションからのスキーヤー100人による松明滑降」。今でこそ日本各地で行われている松明滑降ですが、元祖はこの越後湯沢のようです。

Yuzawa Snow Festival 3. March：Overwhelming downhill torch descent

The Yuzawa Snow Festival which is known with “Miss Komako contest” takes place on 3. March this year.

Official web site looks still under construction. The main contents of the festival are DJ show on the Snow Stage, Miss Komako contest, food carts on the main street, Snow abbey road to “Ski shrine” on middle of the mountain, Winter fireworks, and Torch descent of 100 skiers from Yuzawa Kogen Gondola station as climax. Torch descent is nowadays seen anywhere in Japan but historical original one was done in here Yuzawa.

リフト乗り場から花火が打ち上げられて、雰囲気が盛り上がってきたところで湯沢高原からトーチを持ったスキーヤーが山肌を縫って滑ってきます。

Fireworks are launched from the middle of the slope and as the atmosphere is liven up, the Torch descent starts. One hundred skiers ski on the slope with torches in their hands.
ここら辺がまさに雪祭りのクライマックス！特に新雪を愛する我が家にとってはこの時が毎年のスキーシーズンの最終日になりますので、この松明滑降のシーンはとりわけ感慨深いものがあります。写真では伝わらない感動をぜひ現地で味わってください。

This is the climax of the festival. Especially this means to me the last scene of my personal ski season because I love ski in fresh snow. It means to me so much. Please visit the festival and be impressed more than you feel from photos.
