ガイドさんがいなくても一人で大丈夫！・・・予習編　ラミントン国立公園　スプリングブルック国立公園

現地では看板や標識を、ゆっくりと見る余裕は私にはありません。
そこで、帰国後、ゆっくりと見ようと看板類を撮影し始めたのですが、
もし、前もって、どんな事が書かれているかが判っていれば現地での観光にも余裕が生まれると思います。
そこで、それらをアップすることにしました。
当然、全て撮影できませんが、予習編として少しでもお役に立てればと思います。
尚、私は英語が苦手ですので、訳などは書きません。
最初は気合が入っていたので原文をタイプしましたが、今は、そのような気力や余裕がありませんので、写真のみとさせていただきます。

One of our remaining links with the ancient ancestors of Gondwana is the presence of these majestic Antarctic beech(Nothofagus moorei).
During a wetter cooler time in Australia,about 50 million years ago,forests of these trees were widespread across the continent and provided a habitat for animals, many of which have long since disappeared from our landscape.
About 38 to 45 million years ago, as Australia drifter north from Antarctica, our climate cooled and dried dramatically,forcing rainforests to retreat to isolated areas of high rainfall on the east coast.
The Tweed Caldera was one area where Antarctic beech took refuge.
The ring of massive, gnarled trunks you see today has grown from a single tree
Over many decades, this tree has undergone a process of coppicing-the dying and regrowing of new stems.
This ring of growth encircles the site where a single seed began life some 2000years ago.

An impressive outlook - shaped by upheaval !
As Australia drifted northward some 20 to 30 million years ago it passed over one of the Earth's hot spots which gave rise to volcanic activity.
Molten material poured forth from beneath the surface south of here and formed the Mount Warning shield volcano.
High rainfall created a myriad of streams and rivers which eroded the volcano into its present shape.
The fertile volcanic soils, high humidity and rainfall provided all the elements needed for subtropical rainforest to thrive.
Below you lies Numinbah Nature Reserve, part of the remaining subtropical rainforest, which clothes much of the circular eroded rim as well as the central vent of Mount Warning.
You are standing on the eroded rim of this volcano.

Purling Brook Falls Circuit.Class3 track.
4km return.Allow2-3 hours.
Descend 450 steps to explore a rainforested gorge and view the falls from below.
The best way to tackle the Purling Brook Circuit is to head in a clockwise direction (to the left),
otherwise you will have to walk up 450 steps to end your hike!

Rubbish

Minimal impact bushwalkers take great care to avoid leaving any rubbish, they carry it out.
Pack to minimise rubbish.Avoid taking items such as bottles,cans,excess wrappings and aluminium foil.
Cigarette butts are rubbish too.
Take a rubbish bag and take your rubbish home.
Burning and burying rubbish disturbs the soil,and buried rubbish is often dug up and scattered by animals
Don't rubbish the bush.
Do the park a favour and pick up other people's rubbish too.
Food scraps should be carried out as they disturb the natural nutrient balance and can create weed problems.

Walking tips
Cutting corners on walking tracks and marking unofficial bushwalking routes are unacceptable practices for today's bushwalkers.
You can help protect vegetation and limit erosion:
Keep on the track and do not cut corners,particularly in wet weather.
Shortcutting promotes erosion and degradation and can lead to confusion for other bushwalkers.
Avoid walking on fragile vegetation.
Wherever possible, stay on rock and hard ground.
Walk safely
Become skilled in bush navigation, leave a walking itinerary, and take maps.
Large-scale searches for overdue bushwalkers can have a marked impact on the local environment.
They are also expensive and can be dangerous for the searchers.

旅行記の「ゴールドコーストで一人旅　津波警報に雨ばかりでも、ここは最高！」の中で疑問に思ったオライリーズについて少し調べました。
オライリー一族はこの地に入植し開拓して酪農を始めました。その後、この地が国立公園となった後、1926年に宿泊施設としてゲストハウスをオープンしました。この後1937年2月にブリスベンからシドニーに向かった飛行機が墜落し1週間以上手がかりが無い時に、一人で捜索したのがバーナード・オライリーで彼は墜落現場の発見と2人の生存者の救出に成功しました。この事故を機にこの辺りをオライリーと呼ばれるようになったそうです。
