市街地から離れた場所にある神社からか、ゆっくりと時間が流れるような空気をまとう神社。休日であっても訪れる人は多くなく、境内を散策しながら静かに時間を過ごすことが出来る。偕楽園内の桜山に位置するからか、春には境内の桜が見頃を迎える。
護国神社の名の通り、幕末から戦時中の戦没者が合祀されており、いくつかの鎮魂碑を見ることが出来る。戦争が終わり既に長い年月が経過し、それらの石碑もどうか長い幾年平和であり続けるよう願いながら鎮座しているようだ。訪れる際は、争いの無い恒久的な平和を願いたい。

Because the shrine is located far from the city center, it has an air of slow-moving time. Even on holidays, there are not many visitors, so you can spend your time quietly strolling around the shrine grounds. In spring, the cherry blossoms on the shrine grounds come into full bloom.
As the name "Gokoku Shrine" implies, the war dead from the end of the Edo period to the end of the war are enshrined here, and several memorials can be seen. The war is over and many years have already passed, so these monuments seem to be sitting there hoping for a long period of peace. If you visit the site, you'll wish for a lasting peace without conflict.
