境内に木々はあるものの自然豊かな成田山公園とは対照的で、木材と石材で構成されている建物が連なり荘厳な雰囲気が醸し出されている。初詣に参拝する寺として有名だが、成田空港に近いからか1年を通して参拝客が多い。昨今、多くの神社仏閣がゆるキャラ等で参拝客を増やそうとしている努力が見られるが、この寺はその必要が無いからか、所謂寺としての厳格な雰囲気が保たれているように思える。
総門から入り本堂、平和大塔に行くために階段を登っていくが、急峻というわけではない。境内自体が広く、また隣接する成田山公園と併せれば、1日滞在しても全く飽きないだろう。
空港に近いことあり、寺周辺には高い建物がほとんど存在しない。そのため境内の各建物の荘厳さが一層際立つ。日本人でも海外からの観光客でも、深みのある日本文化を堪能することが出来るだろう。
