Temple with a majestic atmosphere of tranquil forest, but attention is needed for worship on rainy days

仁王門をくぐり抜け、境内を散策すると、奥に向かうほどに鬱蒼とした森の中を彷徨っているような、そんな不思議な雰囲気を漂わせる寺院です。境内の木造の建物も森の中に溶け込んでいるかのようで、100年以上の木材を活用していながらも、長谷寺はまだ人工的な様相を残していますが、室生寺はより自然と重ね合わせたような雰囲気を漂わせています。
但し、雨の日の参拝は少し苦労するかもしれません。ところどころの道は泥濘み、大きな水たまりも出来て歩きにくくなっていることに注意が必要です。歩きやすい靴で参拝することは勿論ですが、雨の日は、五重塔から奥の院までの急な石段が滑りやすくなります。無理をしない範囲で参拝することをお勧めします。
奥の院からの眺めは鬱蒼とした森が続いていますのであまり見ごたえはありませんが、霧に包まれると非常に幻想的な空気に包まれ、より荘厳な雰囲気を味わうことが出来るでしょう。

The inside of the precincts where you passed through the "Nio-mon(Nio Gate)" is like a forest with silent atmosphere. Each wooden building as "Hondo(Main Hall)" in the precincts is as if blending into the forest. Although Hase-dera Temple's wooden buildings still have artificial aspects, Muro-ji Temple makes the whole atmosphere like the inside of the forest.
However, you may have trouble visiting on rainy days. Some places in the precincts are muddy, and there are some places where large puddles are made. I recommend you to visit with easy walking shoes. Furthermore, on the rainy days, the steep stone steps from the five-stories pagoda to Okuno-in are very slippery. For such the days, you should not worship up to Okuno-in.
The view from Okuno-in is not so impressive, since the dense forest spreads out. On the other hand, when enveloped in mist, you can feel more majestic atmosphere.
