漢拏山（ハルラサン）と済州東部をめぐる~Hallasan Mountain and eastern Jeju Island

スイスでトレッキングの経験はありましたが、初の海外登山となる漢拏山（ハルラサン・標高1950m）登頂を目標に、予備日は済州島東部を散策しました。
移動手段はレンタカーです。
漢拏山（ハルラサン）までの距離が近いのと、宿泊代金が済州市に比べて安価なので、西帰浦を宿泊地にしました。

Although I had trekking experience in Switzerland, my goal was to climb Mount Hallasan (elevation 1950m), which would be my first overseas mountain climb. On my reserve day, I explored the eastern part of Jeju Island.
The mode of transportation was a rental car.
I chose Seogwipo as my accommodation because it's close to Mount Hallasan and it was cheaper than Jeju City.

ティーウェイ航空で関西空港から2時間足らずで済州国際空港に到着、初めての韓国旅行のはじまりです。
空港の銀行で両替しようとしたのですが、土曜日は銀行が休業で、ややレートがよくないですが両替店を利用しました。5000円ほど両替しました。レートは926ウォン、5000円で46,300ウォン受け取りました。

現金が少ないかなと思いましたが、韓国は日本よりもキャッシュレスが進んでいて、追加で両替することはありませんでした。逆に日本に帰って現金払いが多いので違和感を感じるほどです。

May 17 (Saturday)
I arrived at Jeju International Airport in less than two hours from Kansai Airport on T'way Air, marking the start of my first trip to South Korea.
At the airport, I tried to exchange money at the bank, but it was closed on Saturday. I used a currency exchange shop instead, although the exchange rate wasn't very good. I exchanged about 5,000 yen. The rate was 926 won, and I received 46,300 won for 5,000 yen.
I worried I might not have enough cash, but South Korea is more cashless than Japan, so I didn't need to exchange more money. In fact, when I returned to Japan, I found it strange to be paying with cash so often.

済州国際空港のレンタカー送迎バス場所乗り場から送迎バスでエンジェルレンタカーへ。予約していたレンタカーをピックアップ、KIAのモーニングです

From the rental car stop at Jeju International Airport, I took the shuttle bus to Angel Rent-a-Car. I picked up my reserved car, KIA Morning.

済州国際空港 (CJU) 空港

naverマップをナビにして出発です。
韓国ではgoogleマップのナビが使えないので、naverマップアプリを利用します。事前に行先を履歴に残しておくと便利です。
ウインカーが左側（日本だと右側）にあるので、慣れるまで、慣れた後でも思わずワイパーを動かしてしまいます。

済州島ではこの辺りが結構車が多いので注意です。

（日本との交通ルールの違い）
・右側走行
・赤信号でも注意しながら右折できる
・青信号でも原則は左折が不可、ただし、「←」マークやサインがある場合は左折可
・減速用隆起（スピードバンプ）があるので、十分に減速しないと衝撃を受ける

I used the Naver Maps app, as our navigation system and set off.
Since Google Maps navigation isn't available in South Korea, I used the Naver Maps app. It was helpful to save your destinations in your history in advance.
The turn signal is on the left side (which is the right side in Japan), so until you get used to it, and even after you do, you might unconsciously activate the windshield wipers.
Be careful, as there are quite a lot of cars around here.
(Differences in traffic rules between Japan and other countries)
- Drive on the right
- You can turn right even at a red light, if it’s safe.
- In principle, left turns are not permitted even on a green light; however, left turns are permitted if there is a "←" mark or sign.
- There are speed bumps, so you will feel a jolt if you do not slow down sufficiently.

済州国際空港 (CJU) 空港

昼食を食べてから西帰浦に行くことにして、空港の北側にある旅館やレストランが集まっているところに行ってみました。

I decided to have lunch before heading to Seogwipo, so we went to the area north of the airport where there are many inns and restaurants.

午後３時頃に空いていて、現地の人がそこそこ入っている店に入ってみます。

I chose a restaurant that's open around 3 PM that seemed popular with locals.

注文はタブレットで、日本語も選択できました。
「接頭骨」を選ぶと骨付きの豚肉が出てきました。米と突き出しはセットでついてきます。一番上に出て来たメニューなので、これが看板メニューなのでしょう。あっさりとした味でした。
もう少し下の麺ものを選べばよかったと思いました。
支払いはクレジットカード可でした。韓国では5000円両替したのみで、少額でもほとんどクレジットカードで支払えました。

Orders were placed via tablet, and Japanese was available as a language option.
When I ordered "prefixed bone," I was served pork with the bone still attached. Rice and an appetizer were included. Since it was the first item on the menu, I assumed it's their signature dish. It had a light flavor.
I wish I had chosen a noodle dish from a lower price range.
Credit card payments were accepted. In Korea, I had only exchanged 5,000 yen, and I was able to pay for almost everything, even small amounts, with a credit card.

西帰浦まで1時間強のドライブ、高速道路ではありませんが、途中からは制限時速70kmで信号のない事実上の自動車専用道を走行します。
ホテルチェックイン後、夕食を取るべく西帰浦毎日オルレ市場に行きます。
入口の並びにイニスフリーの店舗があり、ノーセバムブラープライマーを購入しました。
現地の販売価格は、日本の消費税抜きぐらいの値段で、たまたまセール期間だったので、3割引きで買えました。日本と韓国の価格で大きな差はないようです。

The drive to Seogwipo took a little over an hour. Although it's not a highway, part of the route was like an expressway with a speed limit of 70 km/h and no traffic lights.
After checking into the hotel, I headed to the Seogwipo Daily Olle Market for dinner.
There was an Innisfree store next to the entrance, and I bought their No-Sebum Blur Primer.
The local selling price was about the same as in Japan (excluding consumption tax), and since it happened to be during a sale, I was able to buy it at a 30% discount. Prices between Japan and Korea seemed quite similar.

I went into a historic restaurant called Podolchip located in the Maeil Olle Market in Seogwipo.

メニューが全く読めず、とりあえずメニューの一番上の料理を注文すると、海鮮チゲ鍋(12,000ウォン)でした。注文してからグーグルレンズで翻訳すればよいことに気づきました。
豆腐、アワビ（３個）、アサリ（３個）エビなどが入ったキムチベースの鍋です。

I couldn't read the menu at all, so I just ordered the first dish on it, which turned out to be seafood stew (12,000 won). I realized after ordering that I could have just used Google Lens to translate it.
This is a kimchi-based hot pot containing tofu, abalone (3 pieces), clams (3 pieces), shrimp, and other ingredients.

西帰浦毎日オルレ市場 市場

5月18日（日）
西帰浦のホテルを出発して、45分くらいで城板岳登山案内所に到着、5月は5時から登山可能で、駐車場の2割が埋まっている感じでした。

半袖シャツ、長袖シャツにウインドブレーカーを着るくらいの服装でちょうどぐらいの気温でした。

出庫は無人ですが、入力を要求される４桁の数字がわからず、呼び出しボタンを押して係員を呼んで対応してもらいました。今考えると、車のナンバープレートの番号だったのかもしれません。

Sunday, May 18th
I left our hotel in Seogwipo and arrived at the Seongpanak Mountain Climbing Information Center in about 45 minutes. In May, climbing is allowed from 5am, and the parking lot was about 20% full.
The temperature was comfortable for wearing a short-sleeved shirt, a long-sleeved shirt, and a windbreaker.
The parking lot is unmanned, but I didn't know the four-digit number that was requested, so I pressed the call button to summon an attendant who helped me. Looking back now, it might have been my car's license plate number.

城板岳登山案内所の入り口で予約QRコードとパスポートを提示して入場です。

ポイントごとに通過タイムが設定されていて、遅れるとゲートがしまったり、係員に回収されるようになっています。

At the entrance to the Seongpan-ak Mountain Climbing Information Center, you must present your reservation QR code and passport to enter.
Each checkpoint on the trail has a set time limit, and if you fall behind, the gate closes or an attendant will collect you.

登山道は非常に整備されていて、迷うことはありません。入口からしばらく案内板で簡単と表示されている道が続きます。

The hiking trail is very well maintained, so it’s hard to get lost. For a while after the entrance, the path was clearly marked as easy by the signs.

一番最初の休憩ポイント（Sokbat Shelter）、コンビニで買ってきたキンパを朝食にいただきます。トイレもありますが、手洗い用の水はありません。

At the first rest stop (Sokbat Shelter), I had kimbap that I bought at a convenience store for breakfast. There were toilets, but no running water for washing hands.

ポイントごとに日本語表記もある案内板が配置されています。

Signboards with Japanese translations were placed at each point.

案内板で困難と表示された道です。やや勾配がありますが、困難というほどでもないです。

This was a path marked as difficult on the signpost. There was a slight incline, but it was not really that difficult.

5月下旬から6月上旬にこの辺りはつつじが満開になるようです。

It seems that the azaleas are in full bloom around here from late May to early June.

The azaleas weren't in full bloom yet, but there were a few scattered blossoms just beginning to open.

山頂です。「白鹿潭」と刻まれた石と記念撮影する人が並んでいます。

I reached the summit. People are lined up taking commemorative photos with a stone inscribed with "Baengnokdam."

From the top, you can see a volcanic lake called Baengnokdam.

山頂から観音寺コースで下山します。観音寺コースの方が景色がいいです。
観音寺コースは、城板岳コースよりも勾配がありますが、所要時間が短く、済州市からのアクセスがよいです。
整備された道の下山になるので、日本の山に比べて、膝に負担がかかりました。

観音寺コースの方が登山客の数は多いです。

I descended from the summit via the Gwaneumsa course that offered better views.
The Gwaneumsa course has a steeper gradient than the Seongpanak course, but it takes less time and is easily accessible from Jeju City.
Because the descent was on a well-maintained path, it put more strain on my knees compared to hiking in Japanese mountains.
The Gwaneumsa course has more hikers.

下山ポイントではQRとパスポートの確認はありません。
カカオタクシーでタクシーをピックアップして、城板岳登山案内所に移動します。流しのタクシーも数台いたので、配車アプリを使わなくてもタクシーを捕まえられると思いますが、アプリを入れておくとなお安心です。

There was no QR code or passport check at the descent point.
I used the Kakao Taxi app to call a taxi back to the Seongpanak Mountain Climbing Information Center. Several taxis cruising around, so I think you could catch one without using a ride-hailing app, but it's safer to have one installed.

予定より早く帰着できたので、イニスフリーチェジュハウス・オーソルロクティーミュージアムに行くことにしました。

予想以上に人気スポットでした。

Since I returned earlier than planned, I decided to go to Innisfree Jeju House and the Osulloc Tea Museum.
It was a more popular spot than I expected.

お土産物店とカフェが入っていて、抹茶を使った軽食・スイーツを食べることができます。

お茶を使ったオリジナル商品が多数あり、香りやコスメなど珍しいお茶の使い方がされていました。

お土産を買うと、レシートと一緒に免税に必要な書類を渡してくれます。

It had a souvenir shop and a cafe where you could enjoy light meals and sweets made with matcha.
There were many original products using tea in unusual ways, such as for fragrances and cosmetics.
When you buy souvenirs, they give you the necessary tax-free documents along with the receipt.

山房山が近いので、立ち寄ることにしました。火山活動で隆起した山で、迫力があります。

山房山の寺に次のブッダの言葉が書かれていました。シンプルですが、味わいがあります。

・Let your words be gentle. Gentle speech brings peace.言葉を穏やかにせよ、穏やかな言葉づかいは平安をもたらす。

Since Mount Sanbosan was nearby, we decided to stop by. It's a mountain that was uplifted by volcanic activity, and it's quite impressive.
The following words of Buddha were written at the temple on Mount Sanbo. They are simple, but profound.
・Calmness of mind brings true happiness.
・Let your words be gentle. Gentle speech brings peace.
・Keep doing good deeds. Even small acts of kindnesses lead to great happiness.
・Love yourself. You are your most precious treasure.
・Now is the most precious time. Respect the present moment.

山房山 山・渓谷

山房山から西帰浦の間に、ダイソーとイーマートを発見し、買い物をして帰りました。
イーマートは日本語表示があったり、デリコーナーがあったり、品ぞろえが豊富です。ちなみに、普通のスーパーにデリコーナーはありません。

Between Sanbangsan and Seogwipo, I found a Daiso and an E-Mart, so I did some shopping before heading home.
E-Mart had Japanese signage, a deli section, and a wide variety of products. Incidentally, regular supermarkets didn't have a deli section.

あさイチ、西帰浦から城山浦港総合旅客ターミナルへ移動します。
立体駐車場に車を駐車して、牛島行フェリーに乗ります。チケットを買うときに、紙に名前などを入力して、カウンターに提出します。係員が英語、中国語、日本語いずれでも説明してくれます。
駐車場料金は8,000ウォン（軽自動車4,000ウォン）
フェリーは往復で10,000ウォンです。

May 19 (Month)
First thing this morning, I traveled from Seogwipo to Seongsanpo Port Comprehensive Passenger Terminal.
We parked our car in the multi-story parking garage and boarded the ferry to Udo Island. When buying tickets, you fill in your name and other information on a piece of paper and submit it to the counter. The staff can explain the process in English, Chinese, or Japanese.
Parking fee is 8,000 won (4,000 won for compact cars).
The ferry costs 10,000 won round trip.

城山日出峰 山・渓谷

漢拏山（ハルラサン）では中国人観光客をほとんど見ませんでしたが、牛島行フェリーの客の半分は中国人観光客でした。
済州東部は中国人観光客に人気のスポットのようです。
15分程度で牛島に到着します。

I hardly saw any Chinese tourists at Mount Hallasan, but about half of the passengers on the ferry to Udo Island were Chinese tourists.
Eastern Jeju seems to be a popular spot for Chinese tourists.
I arrived at Udo Island in about 15 minutes.

天津港で電動自転車を借りて、天津港から左回りで牛島を一周しました。電動自転車で一周90分～120分くらいです。
電動自転車はシマノ製のしっかりしたものでした。

I rented an electric bicycle at Tianjin Port and cycled around Niudao Island counterclockwise from the port. The ride took about 90 to 120 minutes.
The electric bicycle was a solid Shimano model.

エメラルドグリーンの水、サンゴの破片でできた白い砂のとてもきれいなビーチです。

It's a beautiful beach with emerald green water and white sand made of coral fragments.

下古水洞(ハゴスドン)海水浴場
珊瑚海水浴場（ソビンペクサ）より広い海水浴場で、夏には人がたくさん来るのでしょう。
水も砂もとてもきれいです。

Hagosudong Beach
This beach is larger than Coral Beach (Sobinbaeksa), so I imagine it gets very crowded in the summer.
The water and sand are very clean.

カフェで一休み、牛島名物ピーナッツアイスです。

ピーナッツをアイスに練り込んだものがないかと他の店も見て見ましたが、ピーナッツの粒をミルクアイスに振りかけるタイプのもの以外は発見できませんでした。

Taking a break at a cafe, I tried Udo's famous peanut ice cream.
I checked other stores to see if they had peanuts mixed into the ice cream, but I couldn't find anything other than ice cream with peanut pieces sprinkled on top.

フンデルトバッサーパーク（入場料9,900ウォン）
グスタフ・クリムト、エゴン・シーレに並んだオーストリアの三大画家のひとり、第二のガウディと称される建築家、自然との共生を夢見た環境活動家であるフンデルトバッサーが設計した公園、カラフルでインスタ映えするスポットです。

Hundertwasser Park (admission fee 9,900 won)
Designed by Hundertwasser, one of Austria's three greatest painters alongside Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele, an architect hailed as the second Gaudí, and an environmental activist who dreamed of coexisting with nature, this park was a colorful and Instagrammable spot.

作品を夢と分身の果実だと考えていたフンデルトバッサーの絵画と日記のグラフィックが展示されていて、ありし日のフンデルトバッサーの息遣いと感触を感じることができます。

The exhibition featured paintings and diary graphics by Hundertwasser, who considered his works to be the fruits of his dreams and alter egos, allowing visitors to feel the presence and essence of Hundertwasser in his younger days.

タマネギはフンデルトバッサー公園のシンボルで、自然との共生を表現しています。タマネギドームは人々を王様の地位に引き上げることを象徴しています。

The onion is the symbol of Hundertwasser Park, representing coexistence with nature. The onion dome symbolizes elevating people to a kingly status.

The program featured some wonderful words from Hundertwasser, who believed that architects should advance people rather than oppress them.
The spiral symbolizes life and death.
Beauty is a panacea.
Dreaming together is the beginning of a new reality.

牛島美術館（ウドミュージアム）では、ダウン症で女優・画家のチョン・ウネさんの作品が展示されていました。チョン・ウネさんの経歴・製作している姿も見れます。をものともせず、創造活動に邁進している姿は多くの人に勇気を与えてくれます。

At the Udo Museum, the works of actress and painter Jung Eun-hye, who has Down syndrome, were on display. I could also see Jung Eun-hye's background and her creative process. Her unwavering dedication to her creative activities, despite challenges, was an inspiration to many.

ランチはパダエチプという店でアワビジャン定食(17,000ウォン)を注文、アワビははさみで食べやすい大きさにして、海苔で巻いて食べます。アワビの歯ごたえと海苔の香ばしさが口の中で素敵なハーモニーを奏でます。アワビ以外の小皿も美味でした。

For lunch, I ordered the abalone jang set meal (17,000 won) at a restaurant called Padaechip. The abalone was cut into bite-sized pieces with scissors and wrapped in seaweed. The chewy texture of the abalone and the fragrant aroma of the seaweed create a wonderful harmony in my mouth. The side dishes other than the abalone were also delicious.

フェニックスアイランドに移動、ここには安藤忠雄氏の建築が２つあります、その一つがグラスハウス glass houseです。

フェニックスアイランドはよく韓国ドラマの撮影地になっています。

We then moved to Phoenix Island, where there are two buildings designed by famous architect Tadao Ando, ??including the Glass House.
Phoenix Island is often used as a filming location for Korean dramas.

敷地が広々としていて歩いていて気持ちがいいです。

Beautiful flowers were blooming around the greenhouse.
The spacious grounds were pleasant to walk around.

アールヌーボーの作品が展示されている維民(ユミン)美術館 Yumin art museumです（入場料20,000ウォン）。

This is the Yumin Art Museum, which exhibits Art Nouveau works (admission fee 20,000 won).

The approach from the entrance to the interior is designed to be somewhat long, creating a luxurious space.

右ルートは有料で城山日出峰の頂上まで行けます。左ルートは無料で城山日出峰を近くで見ることができます。

The right route is a paid route that takes you to the summit of Seongsan Ilchulbong. The left route is free and allows you to see Seongsan Ilchulbong from up close.

頂上から見える、城山日出峰を作ったマグマが噴火した噴火口部分を見ることができます。

From the summit, you can see the crater where the magma that created Seongsan Ilchulbong erupted.

左回りルートでは海岸沿いまで下りることができます。ここから見る城山日出峰も迫力があります。

The counter-clockwise route lets you descend all the way to the coast, offering a specutaclar view of Seongsan Ilchulbong from here.

The traditional culture and history of the Korean language in Jeju, dating back to the late Joseon period in the 1890s, are well preserved in their original state. Admission is 15,000 won.
It includes traditional buildings from various social classes, and even buildings used to house criminals.

「石のおじいさん」という意味のトルハルバンが出入口に配置されています。魔除けの効果があるそうです。

A Dolhareubang, meaning "stone grandfather," is placed at the entrance. It is said to have the effect of warding off evil spirits.

Gogi Guksu (11,000 won): A soup made with pork and dried anchovies, topped with steamed pork. It had a light flavor.
