ダイビング三昧そして地元の人たちとのふれ合いも　in アニラオ

マニラから南へおよそ130km。
マニラ在住の人たちにとって週末ダイビングの目的地として有名なアニラオ（Anilao）でひたすらダイビングを楽しみながら2004年〜2005年の年末年始を迎えた。
かつてアニラオは何もない田舎の漁村であり他のフィリピンの田舎町同様出稼ぎ者が多かったのだが、その海の持つ魅力（サンゴがよく育っている、魚影が濃い、内海で波が低い）が広く知られるようになり、ダイビング・リゾートとして発展していき、地元の人たちもその恩恵にあずかって雇用が促進されたそうだ。
そのアニラオで、日本人の方が経営されているSUN BEAMというダイビングショップ（宿泊施設もある）にお世話になり、丸5日間朝から晩（ナイトダイブ）までダイビングに明けくれた。
合計で15ダイブくらいだったろうか。
途中、同じショップにやって来ていた日本人の方とボートでミンドロ島へショートトリップに出かけたりもした。

ただ、アニラオに着いて早々恐るべきニュースが。
インドネシアやプーケットが大変なことになっている…。
そう、2004年12月26日午前7時58分（ｲﾝﾄﾞﾈｼｱ&ﾀｲ時間）スマトラ島沖地震が発生し、津波の影響で多くの犠牲者が出たというニュースが飛び込んできたのだ。
でもこのときはどれほどの規模の地震や津波だったのか詳細は分からなかった。
アニラオに到着する直前の出来事であったが、ショップの人たちによればアニラオ周辺は普段となんら変わらない状況であったとのこと。
（フィリピンにいる間はあまり情報もなかったこともあり、それほど気になっていなかったが、日本に戻ってテレビや新聞を見てそのすさまじい真相に初めて気づいた次第である。）
