2014 golden week in Hachijojima

There are 4 lasting days off in this Golden Week, and we decided to go "somewhere", unless ruining holidays. I wanted to go to Okinawa though, it had been fully booked already in April, so my partner offered to go to Izu islands. I didn't know almost anything, so first reserved hotels (luckily available) then took flight ticket (even had to be on the waiting list). So we were there at last!

Stayed at Hachijojima Sea Park Resort, it's the view from our room. Only we could hear was sound of waves (unless turning of TV!)

Diner was sooo good. I reserved the middle range of diner, but 6-7 courses at every night, and everything was oishii. These are Ohitashi (boiled vegetable leaves with thin sauce ) of Ashitaba (Hatchijojima's special vegetable, like bitter spinach) and Shimazushi (also special Sushi, already coated a bit sweetened soy sauce, inside mustard instead of wasabi).

the right fish in front dish, it was Kusaya (smelly fish), it was my first time to eat it, tastes very good though, so smelly, like pxx! Every night, they gave us Sashimi, and every Sashimi were soooo oishii.

Grilled food in front of our eyes, with butter taste. Vegetable and ton were very good, but avalon was so chunky like gum and smelled sea too much... anyway I don't like avalon, maybe somebody like it can enjoy this grilled one.

We went to Hachijo Store, local supermarket, to get the food for picnic. The mountain behind is Hachijo Fuji, our destination today.

We went to the foot of the mountain by bicycle, we rented at the hotel. I wanted to borrow the electric bicycle, but they were fully booked ( if you want to travel by the electric bike in this season, you really need to make a reservation beforehand!!), so our bicycle were so shabby and old! But even with them, we could enjoy a lot! I have not ride it for more than 10 years, and I was so unrest to do it until riding. Well, actually I enjoyed a lot! Less car and less stress. We parked the bicycles in the foot of mountain, and walked ( and walked, walked, walked...) to the top. We didn't went to the tamagaki (round stone wall), but this is not bad. I feel this kind of scenery a bit close to Okinawa style.

There were some tropical scenery, for example Sotetsu or this flower.

there are lots of aloes beside the road, it is also speciality on this island.

Soon after this sign board, the path to the mountain starts.

We need to climb up this road about 50 mins.

Top of the Mount Hatchijo Fuji. There is the round course around the crater on the top. It is said also 50 mins corse.

It was so steep cliff inside. Very dynamic scenery.

We ate Shimazushi again for picnic. We bought in Hachijo Store, but it was so good even supermarket's sushi!

Steep narrow path lasts all the way and it was so windy. I felt a bit scared to fall off.

Diner of 2nd day, grilled beef with vegetable. So good!

Sashimi again, surely tastes great.

Kinmedai no Nitsuke (Alfonso simmered with sweetened soy sauce). It was so soft and tasty. I really love it!

Grilled prawn with americaine sauce and boiled oyster with salad. My partner loves this oyster dish.

I woke up at 4:30 to get the sunrise. But it was a bit cloudy so I could see it after 5am. It was cool fresh air and really quiet morning.

We could get the rental car at 2pm the third day at last, till then we rented the bicycles again to explore town (but we could not find perfect downtown here... is there!?). We found the store "boulangerie", not selling only bread but everything like convenience store.

We bought doughnuts, old nice style. Yummy.

It was getting heavy rain... so we were lucky to get the car. It's the Viewspot of Nago.

If it is sunny, might be much nicer view...

Hachijojima lighthouse. I tried to go closer by car, but the path was too narrow to go ahead. So I took it from the road a bit far.

After south part, we went around the north part (we needed to be in hurry, because we had to back the car till 17:30).

It's Minamibara Senjo Kaigan (1000 tatamis coast). Rough and windy.

But there are some nice sweet flowers.

Diner of the third day, cold chawanmushi (salty pudding), marinade vegetable and Fudo (seaweed jelly, their speciality).

Swordfish Sashimi with roughly grinded yum. It was so good.

Fish shabushabu, it is also my first time to try. So yummy again. Very rich taste.
