サン・ルーからシラオスへ　レユニオンの織りなす自然美を満喫しながらのドライブ

海辺の町サン・ルーから高原の町シラオスへのドライブの旅。
このドライブですでにレユニオンの自然の偉大さを痛いほど感じさせられた。

サン・ルーからしばらく海沿いを走り、サン・ルイ(Saint-Louis)の街を通過した後、一路島中央部を目指す。
ピトン・デ・ネージュとその周りの峰々が抱擁するかのように渓谷を絶壁で取り囲み、その縁を辿り雄大な峰々と絶壁にいちいち感動しながら進み、一番の深淵部分に位置する高原の町シラオスへたどりつく。
すでに火山活動を停止して久しいピトン・デ・ネージュであるが、かつての地殻変動が織りなしたこの偶然たる自然美には実にただただ感動するばかり。
夕暮れの陽光に照らされたピトン・デ・ネージュの頂上を拝んだ時には、その感情も一段と極まる。

それにしても、沿岸部の断崖沿いの道路と言い、内陸部の絶壁をくりぬいた道路と言い、フランス人の土木技術や豪健な精神には感心せずにはいられない。
