この建物が教会からモスクへ変えられた時、壁画のほとんどの顔はこのように削り消されている。

最初に描かれた壁画を消そうと試みたけど消せなくて、代わりに壁を削り取ろうとした跡。結局削るのも諦めて絵の上から壁を塗りつぶして新しく絵を描いたのだけれど、その壁画が地震で崩れて、昔の絵が露出した。興味深いのは、その“昔の絵”の下からも“更に昔の絵”が出てきたこと。
何世紀にも渡って人間ってそんなに進歩しなかったんだなーと苦笑した。

The holes are traces from trying to break it down when people wanted to redraw the picture. They realized that isn't a good idea so they covered the whole walls afresh, and drew what they wanted to draw.
Many years past by and when it was already abandoned, the earthquake struck. The newer wall came off and the old picture revealed, what is more, you can see even the older picture behind the old picture.
I felt the irony of human being, who don't evolve as much as they think.
