Senta - Subotica - Palic (Vojvodina)

Vojvodina, the Nothern part of Serbia, is also known as Vajdasag among Hungarians that had belonged to the Hungarian monarchy in their golden age. It is said that still today there are living 200.000 or more Hungarians as ethnic minority. Since the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy as a result of the Great War, the Vojvodinan Hungarians has been forced to adjust themselves to the Yugoslavian-dominated society, often deprived of their chance to autonomy. I visited my friends in Senta (in Hungarian: Zenta) for the Easter of 2007 and taken part in the mass in the St. Christ Church, strictly observed by the Servian police. It wasn't difficult at all to feel sort of the tense atmosphere in consequence of the Kosovo issues.
