秩父地方の景勝地の一つで、地質学的にも極めて重要なスポットの一つでもあります。長瀞駅から徒歩で5分程度というアクセスしやすい場所にあることもあり、川下りを利用せず単に岩畳を歩くだけでも、変化に富んだ景色を楽しむことが出来ます。勿論川下りを利用することで、より様々な角度で景色を楽しむことが出来ます。
季節によって様々な表情を見せるのも、この景勝地の特徴です。川面の深い緑色を端に、新緑の季節の爽やかな緑、夏真っ盛りの深い木々の緑、雪の季節にはまるで水墨画のような色合いと、何度も訪れたくなるのが特徴です。
岩畳は誰もが自由に歩けるものの、お世辞にも歩きやすい足場とは言えず、雨で濡れると一部滑りやすくなるため、足元に充分気を付けてゆっくり歩くことをお勧めします。また岩の欠損防止の観点からか、転落防止用の柵も設置されていません。川へ転落しないよう充分注意する必要があります。

This is one of the most scenic spots in the Chichibu region and is also considered an extremely important geological site. Since it's located only about a 5-minute walk from Nagatoro Station, it's very easy to access. Even simply walking across the famous rock formations without taking the river boat tour allows visitors to enjoy a wide variety of scenery. Of course, taking the river cruise provides even more impressive views from different angles.
One of the most appealing aspects of this location is how dramatically the scenery changes with the seasons. The deep green surface of the river, the fresh greenery of spring, the rich forest colors of midsummer, and the monochrome atmosphere during snowy periods - almost like a traditional ink painting - all make this a place worth visiting repeatedly throughout the year.
Although visitors are free to walk across the rock formations, the footing is not especially easy or stable. Some areas can become slippery when wet from rain, so it's best to walk slowly and pay close attention to where you step. In addition, there are very few protective railings, likely to help preserve the natural rock formations, so visitors should be especially careful not to fall into the river.
